Sept 22: Early this morning, board your motorcoach in Park Rapids, Wadena, Long Prairie & Sauk Center bound for the Minneapolis Airport. Here you will board your flight to Halifax, NS. Today is a designated travel day; upon arrival in Halifax we are transferred to our hotel for a two night stay. Day 2: Thurs.Sept 23:This morning we depart for a full day guided tour of Halifax, Lunenburg and Peggy’s Cove. Halifax, the capitol of Nova Scotia, is the business, educational and cultural center of Maritime Canada. Next, we drive further afield to Lunenburg, NS, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Lunenburg is one of Nova Scotia’s most historic and beautiful towns. The colorful waterfront, and captivating architecture radiate the flavor of the town’s seafaring heritage dating back to 1760. Spend time browsing the town, having lunch at one of the many restaurants that line the pier, or take in the Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic. This afternoon we travel to Peggy’s Cove, one of several fishing villages built around the snug harbors of the craggy coast. (B) Day 3: Fri. Sept 24: This morning enjoy an included visit to the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic housing one of the largest collections from the Titanic. Here you will have plenty of time to view the many artifacts or watch the feature movies to learn more about this area. We depart the beautiful city of Halifax for a scenic drive north to Baddeck, NS located on Cape Breton Island, our home for the next two nights. (B,D) Day 4: Sat. Sept 25: This morning we board our motorcoach for a beautiful guided tour of Cape Breton Highlands National Park and the Cabot Trail. Bound by the Gulf of St. Lawrence on the west and the Atlantic on the East, the Cabot Trail is brimming with majestic mountain beauty, the Pacific Ocean, flora and fauna and enticing history. This park was the first National Park of the Atlantic Provinces. It covers 366 miles of highlands and resembles the coastal regions of Scotland. The Cabot Trail winds along the edge of the park’s rugged, forested slopes, providing a scenic 186-mile drive. (B,L,D) Day 5: Sun. Sept 26: This morning we visit the Alexander Graham Bell Museum which interprets the work of Alexander Graham Bell and his associates. The complex functions as a centre for the study of Bell´s scientific and humanitarian work as illustrated by the artifacts preserved there. We depart and travel south to Caribou Island, NS where we ferry across the Northumberland Straits to Princess Edward Island and on to Charlottetown, our home for the next two nights (B) Day 6: Mon. Sept 27: Today a local guide will be with us for a full day to help us explore Prince Edward Island. We start the day by visiting Avonlea, the “Village of Anne of Green Gables”. Take time to browse through the village and see island life in the 1800’s. Visit the candy factory for free chocolate samples or the 1872 Long River Church that L.M. Montgomery attended with her cousins. Participate in an oyster shucking demonstration, or enjoy a musical performance. This afternoon we continue with our guide as we learn about Prince Edward Island’s agriculture other tourist sites. We visit P.E.I National Park, and beautiful Kensington Water Gardens. Tonight we enjoy an included Lobster Dinner, enjoying one of the local delicacies. (B,D) Day 7: Tue. Sept 28: This morning we leave Prince Edward Island via the Confederation Bridge, the world’s longest, continuous multispan bridge. We travel on to Hopewell Cape, on the Bay of Fundy which is home to the Flower Pot Rocks. Here we enjoy a guided tour and learn about the largest tidal changes in the world. You can walk on the ocean floor at low tide, where the water has dropped over 50-feet exposing the flowerpot rocks. Following our included lunch we depart for Magnetic Hill in Moncton, NB., where the coach will drive to the bottom of the hill, and when put in neutral the bus will magically roll back up the hill. We continue on to Fredericton, NB our home for the evening. (B,L) Day 8: Wed. Sept 29: This morning we continue our drive through New Brunswick where we make a brief stop at Malabeam Reception Center in Grand Falls, NB. Here we are able to view the 75-foot falls and cataract that gives the town its name. This afternoon we continue into Quebec, traveling along the St. Lawrence Seaway to Quebec City. This scenic drive provides great views of the famous seaway as ships make their way between the Atlantic Ocean and the Great Lakes. We overnight in Quebec City. Day 9: Thur. Sept 30: Today our local guide will provide us with great information as we enjoy a full day guided tour of Quebec City and the Countryside surrounding the city including the Island of Orleans, Montmorency, Waterfalls, Beaupre Coast and Ste-Anne Basilica. Carved into the bluffs overlooking the St. Lawrence River, Quebec City is the only walled city North of Mexico. Our guide will share the history and culture of this beautiful city. We go within the walls, built to protect the French from the United States, to visit the many historic buildings built from the 17th century. Late this afternoon we travel to Montreal. (B) Day 10: Fri. Oct 1: This morning our local guide will take us throughout Montreal on a guided city tour to teach us about Canada’s bilingual multicultural city. First explored by the Frenchman, Jacques Cartier in 1535, he climbed the hill in the middle of the island and called the land Mount Royal. Included in our tour will be the city of Montreal, Mount Royal Park, sight of the World’s Fair in 1967, the Basilica and Montreal Harbor. Our journey continues to Ottawa, ON. where we spend the next two nights. (B) Day 11: Sat. Oct 2: We spend the entire day in Ottawa exploring Canada’s Capitol City. Queen Victoria chose this site in 1857 due to the beauty of the area, now noted for more than 70 parks, tree lined streets and noble landmarks. We begin with a locally guided tour of the city stopping at many of the historic buildings and beautiful parks. We enjoy a brief stop at the Byward Market for lunch before our boat ride through Rideau Canal. This canal was opened in 1832 as a precaution in case of war with the United States and is still used today. It is now operated as a recreational waterway. Many photo opportunities abound in this beautiful city. (B,D) Day 12: Sun. Oct 3: This morning a guided tour of the Canadian Parliament Building will help you to understand more about the Canadian Government. Built in 1859, the Parliament Building is the center of the Canadian Government. This afternoon we travel across northern, ON to the Sudbury area for our home for the evening. (B) Day 13: Mon. Oct 4: This morning we travel back into the US at Sault Ste. Marie, MI. Here we board a boat to travel through the famous locks which bring ships between Lake Superior and Lake Huron, raising and lowering 21 feet. We also enjoy a delicious included lunch onboard. We continue on this afternoon spending the evening in Michigan. (B,L) Day 14: Tue. Oct 5: As our adventure comes to a close, we reflect on the beauty of the Atlantic Provinces, early Acadian history, and the splendid scenery of Eastern Canada.
