catalogue - CNASF Home

In the previous fourteen years the sale has sold $2,077,800 worth of alpacas, the
success is a direct result of the hard work of the many volunteers and participants.
Today’s industry has a strong focus on quality, the alpacas offered in the 2016
CNASF sale are from some of the best breeding programs and genetics that are
available. We believe we have an excellent group of sale alpacas again this year.
The alpacas in this sale will be Veterinary inspected the day before the sale. For
new breeders, telephone bidders, and Internet bidders we offer independent
assessments of alpacas by certified alpaca judges. The consignors of the alpacas
in the sale stand behind their alpacas with full reproductive guarantees. The Sale
Committee will help with export requirements, transportation, and any board
requirements for alpacas purchased in the sale. If you anticipate requiring our help
please contact us prior to the sale. Our goal is happy repeat buyers.
The Canadian National Alpaca Select Sale is part of an exciting alpaca weekend.
Friday is our educational day with seminars for both experienced breeders and
those new to the industry. Saturday is the start of the $30,000 plus futurity with an
expected 150 entries. With farm and vendor booths, social activities, “best hand”
and after class “hands on” the Canadian National Alpaca Sale and Futurity has
something for every Alpaca enthusiast.
Peter and his partner established Canchones Alpacas in 1998. Starting on ten acres
with two females, the herd has grown to some 350 black alpacas (250 huacaya and
100 suri). In 2003, the alpaca stud was relocated to a 400 acre property in North
East Victoria, Australia.
In 2004, Peter spent three months in Peru selecting black alpacas to be added to
the Canchones breeding program. In all thirty huacaya and five suri, were selected
by Peter and imported into Australia.
Peter has been a full time alpaca breeder for the last five years. He manages
the breeding program of the Canchones herd, on a daily basis, using the latest
techniques including ET (Embryo Transfer) and the SRS system.
Peter successfully attended the International Alpaca Judging School (IAJS) in the
Peruvian altiplano in 2004. He has also been certified as both an AOBA (Alpaca
Owners and Breeders Association) and AAA (Australian Alpaca Association) judge.
Since qualifying as a judge in Australia and the United States, Peter has judged
shows throughout Australia, Canada , New Zealand, and the USA.

qualities into one package, but there are no

low SD(2.3µ) and CV(16.5%), 0.2%>30µ. The
corresponding handle of this fleece inspires
adjectives such as heavenly, wow, luscious,
sooooo soft and mmmm….. Combine
the fineness and hand with a very evenly
crimped fleece and excellent density. His
shear weight as a cria was 4.6 pounds.

After a long wait for what was expected to
be a spectacular offspring, ZERAH hit the
ground. WOW this is one incredible little
alpaca. She pulled all the elite genetics from
both side of the family tree and combined
them in one compact frame.
We are expecting Zerah to follow in her

legend.
If you have been in the alpaca industry

An alpaca (Vicugna pacos) is a domesticated

There are two breeds of alpaca; the Suri

Alpacas are kept in herds that graze on
the level heights of the Andes of southern
Peru, northern Bolivia, Ecuador, and
northern Chile at an altitude of 3,500 m
(11,500 ft) to 5,000 m (16,000 ft) above sea
level, throughout the year.[1] Alpacas are
considerably smaller than llamas, and unlike
llamas, they were not bred to be beasts of
burden, but were bred specifically for their
fiber. Alpaca fiber is used for making knitted
and woven items, similar to wool. These
items include blankets, sweaters, hats,
gloves, scarves, a wide variety of textiles and
ponchos in South America, and sweaters,
socks, coats and bedding in other parts of
the world. The fiber comes in more than 52
natural colors as classified in Peru, 12 as
classified in Australia and 16 as classified in
the United States.

are made between alpacas and the several
styles of mohair and luster.
An adult alpaca generally is between 81 and

weigh between 48 and 84 kg (106 and 185

Alpacas have been domesticated for
thousands of years. The Moche people of
northern Peru often used alpaca images in
their art. There are no known wild alpacas,

to be the wild ancestor of the alpaca. The
alpaca is larger than the vicuña, but smaller

possibilities are exciting. ROMANCE has a
very dense, highly organized fleece with a
