October 16, 2015 Weekly Newsletter

October 16, 2015
Dear Parents/Guardians,
We are now halfway through October and time is flying by so quickly! I hope that my notes
continue to reach you as the year goes on. Once again, please don’t hesitate to email me if you ever have
any questions! I enjoy the lines of communication! ☺
I am working to post the weekly newsletter online. I have my own part of the Stanton Schools
website. You can go to the elementary tab and then click on fifth grade. My blog is what you should
click on if you want to view the newsletter and pictures. Beau Boeye has been helping me and the site
will continue to improve. Hopefully you find this helpful! Please feel free to share it with family and
friends.
The week has been very busy! We have had so many discussions and activities. Mrs. Mainquist
came to the classroom on Wednesday. She talked to us about how we should be treating others.
Thursday we had a surprise and spent time being like Ivan. The class got very creative and finger-painted
a few large pictures. It was somewhat messy, but the paint is washable and they cleaned up the
classroom. I have taken pictures and will have them on the website soon. They did such an awesome job
with the activity!!
Just a few reminders about homework:
-30 minutes of reading (A.R. book)
-Assignment Book should be reviewed and signed by parent/guardian every night!!!
Other Possibilities:
-Study spelling words
-Study vocabulary words
I have allowed students to have enough time at school to complete their work! Please help them
to get the most out of their nightly schoolwork! I still need all students to read an AR book for 30
minutes every night! The student needs 11 points this quarter for Accelerated Reader. The quarter ends
October 30th, which is two weeks away. If your student needs help selecting an appropriate book, please
let me know and I will be happy to help!
I strongly encourage that there is discussion over the following topics:
-English: What is a possessive noun?
-Reading: Tell me about the four type of author’s purpose.
-Math: What is the difference between commutative property and associative property?
-Social Studies: Tell me the about the first Americans. Who was Christopher Columbus?
-Science: Are you a scientist? Share as much as you know about scientists.
Read Aloud: What is the last Ivan activity we have to finish up?
I am coaching junior high girls basketball this year and the first practice is October 26th.
This is an exciting opportunity! However, the fifth graders will continue to work on
responsibility and will have different personnel in the room with them at the last period of the
day.
All students have been doing such a GREAT job this week! I hope that everyone has a great and safe
weekend!! GO VIKINGS AND VIQUEENS!!
