Rally Behind the Constitution
The Federal government is authorized to exercise
only those powers which have been delegated to it
in the Constitution. Thus, much of what the
Federal government engages in today is not
constitutional.
Checking Federal Power
Thomas Jefferson and James Madison warned us
that if the Federal government were ever to have
the sole and exclusive right to judge the extent of its
own power, that power would continue to grow –
regardless of separations of power, elections and
other commonly cited limits on government power.
The Tenth Amendment Center is a national think
tank that works to preserve and protect the
principles of strictly limited government through
information, education, and activism. The center
serves as a forum for the study and exploration of
state and individual sovereignty issues, focusing
primarily on the decentralization of federal
government power.

The Tenth Amendment Movement is an effort to
push back against unconstitutional federal laws
and regulations on a
state level. The
principle is known as
“nullification,” and
was advised by many
prominent founders.
A Mainstream Movement
Nullification
Freedom is Our Birthright
When a state ‘nullifies’ a federal law, it is
proclaiming that the law in question is void and
inoperative, or ‘non-effective,’ within the
boundaries of that state; or, in other words, not a
law as far as the state is concerned. To
effectively nullify a federal law requires state
action to prevent federal enforcement of that law
within the state.
Nullification efforts are not contingent on
gaining approval or validation from the federal
government. The goal of the Tenth Amendment
Movement is for “We the People” to exercise our
rights whether the federal politicians or the
federal courts want to grant us “permission” to
do so or not.
Benefits Mainstream Americans
Current nullification efforts span the political
spectrum. They include resistance to federal
laws and regulations on health care, guns,
marijuana, use of national guard troops,
monetary policy, and more.
