From Steve…
EVANGELIZING THE THINKING PERSON
At Tusculum, we have a running theme that we routinely make reference
to. It is stated as a question: “Who’s Your One?” That is, who is the one
person in your life right now that you have the best opportunity to reach
for Christ? We can’t bring the whole world to Christ at one time, only one
at a time. So who’s your one?
With that theme in mind, I would like to talk about how we can best reach
that person in our lives who I will call, “the thinking person.” The thinking
person is not won to Christ by emotional arguments. In fact, emotional
arguments often only push them in the opposite direction of faith. For the
thinking person, making the decision to come to Christ in faith is mainly
intellectual.
One of the worst things you could ever do in trying to reach the thinking
person is to treat them like a “contact” a “prospect” or an “object” of
evangelism. If you think of them in these terms, instead of really listening
to them, you will be preoccupied with maneuvering the conversation
around to your personal agenda, instead of letting them first know that
you are genuinely concerned for them. Instead, begin to simply listen to
people with the idea of “making friends for Christ.”
LEARN THE LANGUAGE OF THE THINKING PERSON: The missionary
in a foreign country must learn the local language to be most effective.
He must also learn the intellectual, cultural, and artistic languages of the
culture. We must not only understand their vocabulary, but also the
presuppositions, the worldviews, and thought patterns of the thinking

We were all visitors once, too, and we really are glad you’re here!
We know you may have some questions. We did. All we ask is
that you give us a chance to answer them and help you in any
way we can—no strings attached.
Not sure where to go? Need something?
Ushers are waiting to help you with anything you may need, as
well as direct you to restrooms, the nursery, etc. All you have to
do is ask, and we’ll do everything we can to help.
About our worship
First of all, we will never intentionally do anything to embarrass
you, such as ask you to stand so we can identify you. All of our
acts of worship are strictly voluntary, and you may participate
according to your comfort level. (Return communion cups to the
tray; please do not stack cups.)
Nursery
There is an attended nursery available for children birth through
36 months. We also have Bible story coloring sheets and crayons
available in the Sprouts unattended common area, along with a
streaming of the service, for those who have children older than
36 months. An usher will be happy to show you the way.
Children’s Worship
We offer a time of worship and learning for children ages 3 to
Kindergarten. Since we feel that it is important for these children
to get some exposure to our larger gathering as well, the
dismissal time is usually 15-20 minutes into the worship service.
The “Kids’ Praise” logo will appear on the screen when it’s time to
dismiss. An usher will be happy to show you the way.
Bible Study
Following our worship service, we invite you to stay for a time of
Bible Study. We know this can be intimidating, but we promise
you that, just like in our worship service, we will do our best to
make you comfortable. And we believe you’ll be glad you stayed.
A list of classes is available in the foyer.
Want to know more about us?
Tusculum 101 meets in Adult 3 the first Sunday of each quarter
during class time. This is a time for you to ask, listen, and learn all
about being part of the Tusculum family!

I was formed long ages ago, at the very beginning, when the world came to be.

While fleeing a civil war in his homeland with his wife, Fatu,
children, and a nephew, Isaac Daye was converted to Christ in
a refugee camp in Ghana through the WBS lessons. After
beginning a congregation in the refugee camp and living there
ten years, Daye later moved to The Gambia. From this base,
he started schools and congregations in The Gambia and in
neighboring Sierra Leone. Presently, having returned to
Liberia, Isaac continues to bring people to the Lord and to
establish congregations. He has started a Preacher’s School
and works in the Gospel Chariot Missions. He also helps
church members become self-sufficient by growing crops and
raising animals. We have helped support Isaac and his wife
