May Park Primary School
Newsletter #24
Message from Mr. Bull - Headteacher:
Year 6 SATs next week - good luck everyone!
So, because we are only a few days away from the the SATs, I would like all of Year Six to
do some essential preparation for next week. Please read this carefully: Over the weekend
make some time and choose some of the following to do: treat yourself, go for a walk
somewhere, play a game, go out with your friends, chill out with your favourite film or book,
eat and drink well, enjoy yourself, book in some relaxation time, make some chat time with
your family and/or friends, pack your school bag carefully and in good time for Monday
morning, sleep well, have sweet dreams and above all - look after yourselves.
Look through this week’s newsletter and you will see once again it is crammed full
of news, events, sports reports and celebrations - happy reading and have a great
weekend!

Walk To School Week! May 15th-19th.
We have a number of events lined up, all themed around walking to school. Our aims are to get
more people walking to school. We know that for some of us, cars are essential for our family lives.
If you do use the car, please consider leaving earlier and parking further away. We call this Park
and Stride.
Here are some of the events that will happen in Walk To School Week...
Monday 15th: Design amazing shoes competition. This will happen in school, but feel free to
bring in an entry created at home. Think rocket shoes, magic shoes, gadget shoes, super stylish
shoes. Give the shoes a catchy name, and if possible, label and explain any special features.
Tuesday 16th: Happy Shoesday!Wear your favourite shoes or customise some shoes to make
them look amazing. Prizes for the best creations! We ask for a £1 donation that will go to the
school. Who will be our shoe-per heroes?
Wednesday 17th: Walk to school Wednesday. We will hold a walking bus this morning. 8.30am
in the Rosemary Lane Playground. Last time we had nearly 50 people! Can we set a new record
for taking part?
Thursday 18th: Parking / Walking Party at the front gate.Strider will be here to welcome
walkers one and all! Strider will also be here to hand out prizes for your poster designs and Happy
Shoesday Creations in assembly.
Friday 19th: Park and Striday. We will be holding a guided park and stride from the Eastville Park
Car Park by the playground. 8.30am weather-permitting.
Sport
Football Match against Summerhill Academy
On Tuesday 25th April we played Summerhill
Academy. May Park scored first but Summerhill
fought back scoring four goals in the last ten
minutes of the first half. After a very competitive
second half we managed to score a second goal
but sadly ran out of time. The final score was 4-2
to Summerhill Academy.
W.E.S.P.O.R.T Spring Games Thursday 27th April
Tag Rugby County Finals
12 pupils took part in the Tag Rugby County Finals at the Spring Games last week. Playing
at County level is a big step up from the local Level 2 tournament and the children took on
this challenge with gusto. After some very close competitive matches we managed to finish
12 overall out of 16 teams.
Primary Cycling
This year we were invited to take part in this new event.
Four Year 5 pupils bravely accepted this challenge
although we had no idea what lay ahead. Once the
children were all kitted up bakes and helmets their
challenge was to cycle around a marked course against
the clock and racing three other children. It was great
fun and a real experience for May Park competing in a
new sport.
Year 4 Archery
Four pupils from Year 4 were invited to participate in an
archery event at the Spring Games. There were several
different challenges, accuracy (at a target), distance and
a combined event with the target on the ground. All the
children had a great day experiencing a tournament.
Quicksticks Hockey County Finals
A squad of six pupils headed to the Spring Games to the quicksticks hockey event having
qualified in the local tournament at City Academy. The competition
was tough against children who have the opportunity to play hockey
outside of their school lessons. The determination of our team shined
through in each game they played.
Netball Match v Bannerman Road Community Academy on Tuesday 2nd May
The netball squad highlighted all the effort they have put in with their training sessions this
year. They played creative netball with great movement around the court supporting each
other to pass the ball forwards to the shooting circle, resulting in a great 11-1 win for us.
May Day Dancing
Parents and children from the
Nursery and Reception classes had
a great time dancing round a
maypole during the EYFS Tuesday
morning parent workshop. All the
Nursery children then had a go
during their PE lesson the following
day.
May Park’s Royal Tea Party
At the end of Term 4, Year 2 celebrated their learning about Queen Victoria and Queen
Elizabeth II by having a Royal Tea Party. They made (and munched) delicious Victoria
sponge cakes, donned their royal clothing and partied in the glorious sunshine. A big thank
you to all the adults who brought food and joined in the fun. The children had such a
memorable experience.
