 RTF Import Formatting Guidelines RTF, TXT, MS Word type ExamSoft’s import wizard will allow you to import multiple choice, true-­‐false, essay, fill in the blank, and multiple answer questions. The files will need to be saved as or exported as an .rtf file before import. Question/Item Formatting The system will keep the formatting you have created when importing into the item bank*, however there are some limitations to make sure the questions/items are compatible with SofTest: Supported Fonts: Arial Arial Black Comic Sans MS Courier New Times New Roman Georgia Trebuchet MS Impact Verdana Supported Font Sizes: 8pt, 9pt, 10pt, 11pt, 12pt, 14pt, 16pt, 18pt, 20pt, 22pt, 24pt, 26pt, 28pt, 36pt, 48pt 72pt Formatting the Questions/Items All Question Types INSTRUCTIONS EXAMPLE Question/Item Stems Each item must begin with a, followed by either a period “.” or a parentheses “)”, unless an item type is designated as shown in below examples. Followed by a space and then the item stem text itself DESCRIPTION/TITLE (Optional): A description can be imported with each item. If not provided, the first 20 characters of the item stem will be used as the item description. They must be placed at the beginning of the item stem and begin with “Title:”. To escape bad government Rationale (Optional) Can be indicated in two ways: BY QUESTION/ITEM Use the tilde “~” symbol after the item for the rationale of the question/item. BY SPECIFIC ANSWER Use the “@” answer rationale (if Multiple Choice OR Multiple Answer). There must be at least one space to the right of the @ symbols and the text you want displayed for the feedback. text (.rtf) file from Microsoft Word or your word processing software. Your file is now ready for the Importer.
