Trinity Sunday: It is by revelation, or through
experience that we come to know anyone. It is the
same with God. The way in which God has made
Godself known to humanity is firstly through
creation itself. As God is an abundance of energy
and life, God bubbles over with existence within
Godself. This desired to be in relationship with
humanity and the world which had been created.
In bonding with humanity, Israel were a people
who put words on the bonding of God with them in
terms of a covenant – a bond of unmerited love. In
the fullness of time God sent his own Son, born of
Mary that we might understand the desire of God
to enflesh the reality of this immense love. In
relationships the self-giving can always be
rejected and misunderstood. In God transcending the vagaries of our existence, God
acted rather than giving up. In Christ God again recreated us anew. In the sending of
the Spirit, that life-giving presence is ever with the world. Complex and ever simple
as we name the reality every time we bless ourselves and begin (and end) our
prayer with the sign of the cross, ‘In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of
the Holy Spirit.’ AMEN – which means ‘so be it’, “YES”, and that we desire to put into
practice the words we have just prayed!
ST. VINCENT DE PAUL WINTER APPEAL
Our Winter Appeal will be conducted this weekend, the 10/11th
June. A retiring collection will be taken up at each of the Masses, and
envelopes will be available for those who haven’t come prepared on
the day.
This year the need seems to be greater than ever, and since January we have made
about 220 home visits to provide assistance to local residents in financial distress.
Through your ongoing support we are able to provide supermarket cards to enable
families to eat, and to fuel their cars. We have also provided assistance with utility
bills and education expenses. We are able to listen to people’s stories, and to pray
for them. Members of our conference also visit Canossa to provide fellowship and
music. We know that we can rely on parishioners to support us in our work both
through your generous response to our appeal, and through your ongoing prayers
for Society members, and those we serve.
Thank You Vincentians: at the Saturday evening Mass at St Joseph’s this weekend
there will be the St Vincent de Paul Society Induction of new members to the Society
and a Renewal Commitment for present members. The parish is ever grateful to the
dedicated ministry of our local Vincentians who are at the parish front-line of caring
for those in need. These are the human face of the compassion of God. We pray for
God’s continued inspiration of their ministry, and blessings on their good work. Lord
Jesus… we bow down before you, members of a world-wide family united under the
standard of St Vincent de Paul in the apostolate of charity. We dedicate and
consecrate this, our Conference, with all its members, associates and benefactors,
those we visit or assist and all the works we have undertaken for Your glory. We
humbly ask you to receive this offering and to fill us with the love You wish to see
growing daily in the hearts of all people. With this help we may learn to have a right
attitude to this world, to love our members, to help our neighbour by word and
example, and despite difficulties, to fix our hearts on the riches and happiness that
will never end. Amen. (from Act of Consecration).
Children’s Liturgy: is on at St Joseph’s Corinda at 8am Mass this weekend. Thanks
for Children’s Liturgy Leaders for opening up our young ones to the awesomeness of
God in the Trinity.
Morning Tea after 8am Sunday Mass: at St Joseph’s Corinda to have an ongoing
discussion of what the Trinity means to you – or simply to enjoy relationships.
NEW PARISH OFFERING ENVELOPES AVAILABLE AT THE FRONT OF THE CHURCH
If you are continuing using envelopes for Parish Offerings or have returned paperwork to commence using envelopes, please collect your envelopes from the
alphabetical boxes at the front of the church that you have nominated as your main
place of worship.
Welcome Fr Tony Edgar CP: A very warm Corinda Graceville Parish welcome to Fr Tony Edgar, a Passionist Priest from
Adelaide who has come to the St Mary’s Passionist Community at Oxley to provide the ministry that Fr Paul normally does. (As
you know, Fr Paul left last week on a preaching mission in the United States.) Fr Tony is a native of South Australia, who in
joining the Passionists has ministered in Victoria, New South Wales and also in Papua New Guinea. I am sure we will get to
know much more about Fr Tony and his ministry as we enjoy his passionate shepherding here in Corinda Graceville over the
next few months. And there is no truth that it was an opportunity to come north for the winter; or is there?? Fr Tony you are
very welcome! We rejoice in your presence with us for this time.
Episcopal Ordination of Bishop-Elect Ken Howell as Auxiliary Bishop of Brisbane: This will be at St Stephen’s Cathedral
at 11am on Wednesday 14 June. Bishop-elect Ken grew up at Grovely, attending St James’ College, Brisbane. He was also a
regular chorister at St Stephen’s Cathedral in his younger days. His seminary was at Pius XII Brisbane, ministering in various
parishes including a couple of stints at Burleigh Heads, and Dean of the Cathedral. He also studied Liturgy in Rome, and was
on the staff of Holy Spirit Seminary, Brisbane. Archbishop Mark will ordain him as an Auxiliary Bishop of Brisbane, which
means his ministry is one of assisting the Archbishop in his leadership of the Archdiocese – so arch-bishop, as in the one who
is the leader of the diocese, and auxiliary as in ‘giving support, helping’ in the multitude tasks that a bishop has in such a large
area of responsibility. See page 3 of newsletter for details of how to watch the webcast of the ceremony. The Church of
Brisbane gives thanks to God for Bishop-elect Ken’s ordination, and thanks to Ken for saying yes to the invitation of Pope
Francis into this shepherding of the Church.
RCIA Team meeting: please keep in your prayer the request for people to respond to the beckoning of God by finding out
more about the way of walking with God’s people in the Church as we journey towards our heavenly homeland. The parish
RCIA team is meeting this Thursday 11am at the parish office. Thanks to them.
Parish Finance Council Meeting: this Thursday evening 7.30pm at the parish office. Plenty to discuss with work to be done
around the parish and ministries to be supported. Update on the painting of the parish centre is that painters have been unable
to commence due to their workload. Hopefully painting will start soon. Quotes continue to be chased for the restoration of the
pews at St Joseph’s. Also an update will be provided on the Planned Giving whose new envelopes you are encouraged to
collect at church. Thank you.
Saturday morning Liturgy time change: Morning Prayer of the Church is “get up and go” prayer, and is celebrated in St
Joseph’s Church on Saturday mornings. The prayer consists of psalms, canticles, prayers of intercessions, hymns, and a
reading from scripture. Morning Prayer has moved to a new starting time of 8.00am on Saturdays. You are invited to come and
join with other parishioners in this time of prayer.
Celebration of the Sacrament of Confirmation: last Friday night 9th June saw 84 parishioners further initiated into the
Church. As well as appreciation to their parents for their ongoing commitment to the nurturing of their children into the faith, we
are very grateful to our Sacramental Co-ordinator Melissa Lonergan and her many helpers for making the whole organisation
run so smoothly. A lot of Spirit-inspired assistance goes into making the unity of the celebration happen with the mighty wind
and flame of faith. Gratitude to the many who helped to make it happen.
The Paraclete: as in the Holy Spirit Seminary’s booklet informing the Church of seminary life and activities over the past year,
and into the future, is available at the doors of the church. This is the eleventh edition. Please take one to read.
Pope Francis: has offered prayers for the victims of the last weekend's terrorist attack in London, and for their families. The
prayers of the Holy Father came at the end of Mass on Pentecost Sunday, before praying the Regina Caeli. “May the Holy
Spirit grant peace to the whole world,” Pope Francis prayed, “may He heal the wounds of war and of terrorism, which even this
night, in London, struck innocent civilians: let us pray for the victims and their families.”
Appointments: Archbishop Mark Coleridge has announced the following: Fr Stanley Orji as Administrator of Burleigh Heads
until November, then Fr Morgan Batt as Parish Priest of Burleigh Heads; Fr Kevin Njoku as Parish Priest of Beaudesert;
Fr Quintin Culpeper as Associate Pastor of Caboolture; Fr Nicholas Okafor as Associate Pastor of Ipswich. Fr Alex Vickers OP
is welcomed to the Archdiocese, as Parish Priest of Carina. Fr Prema Kumar is also welcomed to the Archdiocese and will
serve as Pastor to the Syro-Malankara community. Fr Peter Dillon is now Dean of the South Coast Deanery, Fr Bob Harwood
is now Dean of the Brisbane Northern Rivers Deanery and Fr John Conway is Dean of the Logan Deanery.

Campaign - nine weeks of prayer for vocations in the
Archdiocese of Brisbane.
The prayer campaign begins today, Sunday 11 June, and
culminates at the end of National Vocations Awareness
Week on Sunday 6 August. This campaign encourages a
prayerful culture across the Archdiocese of Brisbane by
praying a nine week novena for vocations.
A: At the sight of the crowds Jesus’ heart was moved.
B: For they were like sheep without a Shepherd.
A: Jesus said, “The harvest is ready”.
B: “But the labourers are few”.
A: Ask the Lord to send out labourers for the harvest.
B: O Lord we pray that young men will answer the call to
become priests in Your harvest.

capture the opinions and perspectives of young people as
part of a national consultation process that will inform an
international conversation in Rome next year.
Australians aged between 16 and 29 are encouraged to
complete the survey. Pope Francis has called young people
to join this inclusive journey saying that the Church "wishes to
listen to your voice, your sensitivities and your faith; even

resonate in communities".

LITURGY SNIPPET: Solemnities
The Church liturgical calendar ranks celebrations of the Lord,
Mary and the saints as solemnities, feasts and memorials, with
solemnities having the highest rank. Solemnities also celebrate
events or beliefs of universal significance in salvation history.
Throughout June we celebrate a number of solemnities. So far,
we have celebrated Pentecost Sunday. Today we celebrate The
Most Holy Trinity. In the coming weeks we celebrate The Most
Holy Body and Blood of Christ, The Most Sacred Heart of Jesus,
The Nativity of Saint John the Baptist, and Saints Peter and Paul.
There is much to celebrate as we recall these significant beliefs
of our faith and these prominent saints. (Source: Liturgy Lines)
