With 27 Years of Gratitude
To our Founder, Staff, and Volunteers
Internationally renowned vocalist, Alexandra Ivanoff, fulfilled her vision of a midday concert series with the launch
of Noontime Concerts on December 6, 1988. To this day it remains a treasured Bay Area landmark and continues to
present hundreds of classical concerts performed by outstanding local and international musicians each Tuesday
afternoon in the heart of San Francisco.
Noontime Concerts’ second Executive Director, James Rittell, carried the tradition and remained an ardent advocate
for the series for the next decade and a half curating concert presentations to thousands of concert-goers
throughout the Bay Area.
Noontime Concerts is modeled after a popular series of lunch-time concerts started during World War II in Britain by
Dame Myra Hess— a version of which still takes place in the Royal Parish Church of St. Martin-in-the-Fields located
in London. Founded in Old St. Mary’s Cathedral, Noontime Concerts is recognized as a valued local institution that
enriches the community and cultural life of the Bay Area.
As we begin our 27th year we are extremely pleased to announce that, thanks to two very generous bequests,
Noontime Concerts has established an endowment fund to ensure the future of our programs for many years to
come. So it is with gratitude that we invite you to enjoy the music, celebrate our history, and share our enthusiasm
for Noontime’s bright future as one of San Francisco’s most vibrant and essential cultural organizations.
