Personal Declaration of Independence
Students of Anthem School, the time has come for you to shake off the
hands of an oppressive and tyrannical administration and cruel, unfair
teachers! Declare your independence from the forces that are taking away
your freedom.
In this activity, you will have the opportunity to write your own Declaration of
Independence from your school. You will follow the same format that Thomas Jefferson did in
writing the original Declaration of Independence.
You will begin with the brainstorming session on the backside of this handout. You will
come up with ideas for each section of your Declaration. Then, you will use your notes to write
your personal Declaration of Independence.
Your paper should contain four paragraphs; as the original document did. The first
paragraph should be your introduction discussing why you are declaring your independence
from Anthem School. The second should express your beliefs about the rights of students. The
third should list the wrongs done to you by the administration and teachers of the school. The
final paragraph should formally declare your independence from Anthem School and the
powers that you have now that you are free.
