The six voices Gesualdo Responses are more than a master-piece: a moment of
dark lightning around the Christlike figure of the betrayed poet, crushed, put
to death. The text’s dramatic power tries to make a concentrated theatre on
the word’s, figure’s and voice’s scene. Carlo Gesualdo leads the madrigalism
to a breaking point with a kind of exceeding of all the conventions…
The Ingegneri’s “Lamentations de Jeremie» which ponctuate Gesulado’s
responses in this concert, open to us a very different world contrasting with
that one's madrigalism : here everything is balance and evidence, control and
conciseness, entirely at the service of the sacred text.
