How to Decopatch™ Almost Anything Decopatch™ is a fun way to revamp just about anything. The durable, thin paper is printed with bright colorfast prints and images that can change dull and plain to beautiful - fast! To Decopatch™ you’ll need: • Decopatch paper, torn to small pieces (around the size of a quarter or silver dollar) • A brush • A small jar of water • Decopatch glue or varnish To Use: 1. Dip your brush in the glue and place a small amount on the surface of your object. 2. Place a small piece of Decopatch™ paper over the wet glue. 3. Using your brush, smooth the surface of the paper out and apply a thin coat of glue over the paper. 4. Repeat this, overlapping paper pieces to achieve a smooth coat. How much paper do I need? If you only want to use one pattern on a project these are some suggested amounts. Your project may differ. Prepare your work area by covering the table or surface. You may use newspaper or a drop cloth. We recommend using an old shower curtain or other plastic drop cloth as Decopatched items may stick to paper until they are dry. Decopatch™ glues and varnishes dry FAST, so make sure you drop the brush into the water between uses. • • • • • Small paper mache animals - 1 sheet of paper Switch plates and outlet covers - 6 covers per sheet of paper Larger animals (deer head, cow head, flamingo) 3-4 sheets of paper Wooden kitchen stool - 6 sheets of paper When using Decopatch™ paper on old furniture or frames you will need to prepare the surface. 1. Remove any debris or loose and chipping paint. You may want to lightly sand the surface to do this. If the surface is tacky or sticky you may want to wipe it down with rubbing alcohol to remove any surface oils or residues. 2. Repair the item if necessary. Glue any loose joints, edges or trim. Which glues should I use? Choose the glue that’s right for the job. Decopatch™ Glues and Varnishes:Modge Podge™ or Craft Glues: are 100% waterproof when dry are not waterproof when dry have no odorhave no odor clean up with water clean up with water dry quicklydry in 24 hours will not come out of clothing! will wash out of clothing Generally, we say that if you are using Decopatch™ on an item that will receive wear or that you want to last a long time (like furniture or decor) you should use the Decopatch™ Glue or Varnish. Modge Podge™ is okay for items that won’t see much use (like seasonal decorations or party decor) or when you are doing crafts with very young children.
