How to Decopatch™ Almost Anything

How to Decopatch™ Almost Anything
Decopatch™ is a fun way to revamp just about anything. The durable, thin paper is printed with bright
colorfast prints and images that can change dull and plain to beautiful - fast!
To Decopatch™ you’ll need:
• Decopatch paper, torn to small pieces
(around the size of a quarter or silver dollar)
• A brush
• A small jar of water
• Decopatch glue or varnish
To Use:
1. Dip your brush in the glue and place a small
amount on the surface of your object.
2. Place a small piece of Decopatch™ paper
over the wet glue.
3. Using your brush, smooth the surface of the
paper out and apply a thin coat of glue over
the paper.
4. Repeat this, overlapping paper pieces to
achieve a smooth coat.
How much paper do I need? If you only want
to use one pattern on a project these are some
suggested amounts. Your project may differ.
Prepare your work area by covering the table or
surface. You may use newspaper or a drop cloth. We
recommend using an old shower curtain or other
plastic drop cloth as Decopatched items may stick to
paper until they are dry.
Decopatch™ glues and varnishes dry FAST, so make
sure you drop the brush into the water between uses.

Small paper mache animals - 1 sheet of
paper
Switch plates and outlet covers - 6 covers
per sheet of paper
Larger animals (deer head, cow head,
flamingo) 3-4 sheets of paper
Wooden kitchen stool - 6 sheets of paper
When using Decopatch™ paper on old furniture or frames you will need to prepare the surface.
1. Remove any debris or loose and chipping paint. You may want to lightly sand the
surface to do this. If the surface is tacky or sticky you may want to wipe it down with
rubbing alcohol to remove any surface oils or residues.
2. Repair the item if necessary. Glue any loose joints, edges or trim.
Which glues should I use?
Choose the glue that’s right for the job.

Generally, we say that if you are using Decopatch™ on an item that will receive wear or that you want to last a
long time (like furniture or decor) you should use the Decopatch™ Glue or Varnish. Modge Podge™ is okay for
items that won’t see much use (like seasonal decorations or party decor) or when you are doing crafts with
very young children.
