STAFF NEWSLETTER
Welcome to the fourth edition of the staff Newsletter. Last
edition we told you about two new YouSave stores. We
are happy to announce that the Wynyard store celebrated
its opening week early in September, and the Crows Nest
store will be completely transformed to a YouSave by mid
October.
Upon takeover the Wynyard store was still relatively new
and didn’t require a shop fit. After rearranging most of the
store, and changing the signs, they were up and running.
Crows Nest required a little more work, including a full shop
fit, new flooring, new shelving and a lot of rearranging of
the stock. The shop was still open for business throughout
the shop fit, which made it challenging to say the least. We
hope for the shop fitout to be completed shortly.
In other news, many staff would be aware that several of
the YouSave stores are in the process of installing Tony
Ferguson booths. These stores include Warringah Mall
(YouSave has purchased the existing Tony Ferguson store at
the mall, which will be relocated to inside YouSave Warringah), Meadowbank, Macquarie Centre, Umina and Crows
Nest. Due to space restrictions, Mosman and Avalon will
not be installing Tony Ferguson booths. To explain a little
more about Tony Ferguson, Alison a nutritionist from Crows
Nest, has written a little about the program below.
Many of you have already enrolled in the YouSave online
training program, (training.supportyousave.com). Kelly
from Warringah Mall has written a review of the training
site later in the newsletter.
Congratulations to the Avalon and Mosman stores, on winning the
Top 3 competition. Mosman has performed consistently well to
achieve their first win. Avalon has proved again that they are the
store to beat! Keep up the good work.
Bars and bottle shops of Avalon and Mosman watch out!
Love seems to be in the air, with several staff getting engaged or
married since the last issue.
Congratulations to:
- Gayan, the pharmacist from Wynyard who got engaged to his
girlfriend Alyce on his birthday in August.
-Alison from Crows Nest also got engaged recently while holidaying
in New Zealand.
-Gagan a pharmacy assistant from Warringah Mall got married in
September in a private ceremony.
-Crystal from Meadowbank who got married in September, in the
Philippines.
Congratulations to Andrew Siu and his wife Cindy from the Warringah and Avalon store who welcomed the arrival of their first child
Riley Siu who was born on Tuesday 28th of September.
We would also like to congratulate Harley Campbell from Avalon.
She recently competed in the Sydney Eisteddfod, doing very well,
including coming first in her demi-character solo. Well done Harley.
She trains five days a week as a dancer, and does school via distance
education and is only in year 9.
Congrats to Luke Parsons, the intern pharmacist from Umina. He
recently passed his final written exam, with only his oral exam to go
before he is a fully qualified pharmacist.
The fit crew at Mosman; Steve, Leva and Cherrie competed in the
City to Surf in August. Steve was disappointed in his time of 1hr
5mins and 31secs after apparently getting stuck behind a big group
of non-runners. Leva and Cherrie completed the course in 2hrs
20mins and 56secs. Good work guys. Ellie and Simon flew the flag
for the Avalon store. We would love to see many more Yousave staff
enter next year, so start training!
ering nutrition messages. The Tony Ferguson program
applies many of the nutrition recommendations made
by health professionals; such as eating two serves of
fruit and five serves of vegetables a day, and drinking two litres of water per day. The program has had
some great weight loss success stories with customers losing an average of 4-8kg per month. Even those
who have been unable to stick with the program and
lose their desired amount of weight have maintained
The Tony Ferguson Weight Loss Program will soon be
some of the healthy habits that they learnt while on
introduced into many YouSave Chemist stores. The

replacement program!” So, how is this program different to all of the others? For customers it means ongoing
support from a trained practitioner, a range of supportive products and a three phase program in which they
can learn lifelong skills. For you, it means an opportunity to challenge yourself beyond the usual pharmacy
activities and be involved in: helping someone to
improve their health, motivating customers and delivThe Tony Ferguson program was developed by an Australian
Pharmacist and is now in 58 pharmacies and weight loss wellness
centres in NSW alone. The Brand has also gone overseas and is
available in Boots pharmacies in the UK, and in pharmacies or online
in New Zealand, the RSA and the USA. Since starting the program,
Tony Ferguson has helped over 600 000 people lose weight. Below
Alison tells us a little bit more about the program.
Random Medical facts
- If you unfolded your brain, it would cover
an ironing board.
- If your stomach didn’t produce a new layer
of mucous every two weeks, it would digest
itself.
- In the average lifetime a person will breath
in about 44 pounds of dust.
- Redheads require more anesthesia to ‘go
under’ than other hair colors do.
Main Course
Easy savoury Crepe’s
Fry up bacon, mushrooms, onions and shallots.
Make a white or cheese sauce and add Bacon
mixture, plus frozen peas and corn. Put a layer
of the mixture on half the crepe and fold the
crepe over. Sprinkle grated cheese over the top,
and bake in a 180oC oven until the cheese has
melted. Alternatively you could add seafood or
any leftovers from the fridge. Serve with a Salad.
Dessert
Not so Easy Flourless chocolate cake
Preheat oven to 175oc. Cut a piece of baking
paper to fit a 20cm round cake tin, with a double
layer for the side and single layer for the base.
Spray the tin with cooking oil and fit the paper
snugly.
Melt 400g good quality dark chocolate in a
stainless steel bowl over a saucepan of hot
water. Remove chocolate from heat and cool to
room temperature.
In a large bowl, beat 6 egg yolks and 100g of
castor sugar until pale and creamy. Beat in 2½
tbs of Cointreau until well combined. Stir in
melted chocolate until completely incorporated,
slowly stir in 150ml of pure cream. Set aside.

Training Site review by Kelly Brown
From Warringah Mall
The training.supportyousave.com website is a breeze to navigate.
All you need is your username and password and you’re in. You can
choose to do the modules in any order that you wish. You can even
go back and review modules to answer any additional questions that
you might have. There is also a function that lets you see who else is
on line doing training at the same time as you are.
There are modules that cover everything - from cold and flu products
to oral care to cosmetics to baby care. Each module has sections covering specific topics that are packed with information presented in a
clear and concise manner. Some of the information has been around
for a while but lots of it is new. So even if you’ve been working in
pharmacy for years you can still pick up new ideas and facts. It only
takes a few minutes to read each section and then it’s on to the quiz.
The quiz questions are straight forward and easy to understand. The
answers are educational and, sometimes, highly entertaining. Who
knew that there are so many organizations with the initials ‘TGA’ (find
the answer in “Pharmacy Medicines and Pharmacist Only Medicines”)? Keep an eye on the time because some of the quizzes are
timed.
Whip another 150ml of cream into soft peaks,
set aside.
Here’s the best part. When you submit your answers to a quiz, the
program tells you which questions you got wrong so you can look up
the correct answer while the information is still fresh in your mind.
Whisk 6 egg whites in a very clean bowl until
soft peaks start to form. Slowly add another 50g
of castor sugar and whip until very firm.
Check out training.supportyousave.com.au; you will learn heaps of
new information and many stores give staff a great cash bonus for
completing all modules.
Fold the whipped cream into the chocolate mixture, then fold in the whipped egg whites.
Pour into the cake tin, then place in a bain-marie
or on a baking try. Add enough hot water to
reach 2.5cm up the outside of the tin.
Bake for 45mins. Turn down to 150oc and bake
for another 45mins. Turn oven off but leave cake
in oven for 20 mins.
Cut around the edge of the tin. Turn it over onto
a plate – the cake should slide out easily. Slice
using a knife dipped in hot water, cleaning the
knife after each cut. Sprinkle with icing sugar
and serve with lightly whipped cream.
