Kingdom Kids Puppets Spring ’14: Week 4, Jan. 29 Puppeteers: Brian: Jordan / Jessica: Maria / Hope: Lisa Verse: John 3:16 – For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. ------------------------------------------------------------------Allan reviews last week’s verse & song – Luke 11:9 Allan welcomes kids and calls for his “friends” to appear. Puppets all say “hello” “hey everybody” “what’s up, ya’ll” Lisa: Allan, I hope it’s OK that I told one of the ladies who sit close to us on Sunday mornings to come tonight to Kingdom Kids. This is Maria. Maria: Hi everybody! (other puppets, etc., say “hi”) Allan: Of course it’s alright to invite your friends to Kingdom Kids, Lisa. Nice of you to join us, Maria. Tell us a little about yourself. Maria: Well, I live here in Elgin and I love to cook for my family and friends. I’ve been going to First Baptist for about 10 years and I love kids! Jordan: What kinds of food do you cook, ‘cause I LOVE to eat! Maria: Well, Tex-Mex specialties seem to be my family’s favorites. Tacos, enchiladas – and I make really good Spanish rice. Jordan: Mmmm … you’re making me hungry. Maria: I’ll have to cook for you sometime, IF you tell me your name. Jordan: Jordan’s my name and eating’s my game. Maria: (laughs) Sounds like we’re gonna be good friends, then, Jordan. Lisa: Don’t forget me! Just ‘cause I’m a girl doesn’t mean I don’t like to eat, too. Maria: Tell you what: I’ll get with your parents and invite you both over to my house very soon. How’s that sound? Lisa & Jordan: Great! Allan: Maria: I’ve noticed that you tend to come to church by yourself. Do you mind if I ask why? Maria: Well, my husband passed away and went to be with God a long time ago. We raised 2 children – a boy and a girl. They’re all grown up now and live in Austin with their families. But they come see me every Thursday night where we play games and of course I cook for them. Lisa: I’m sorry your husband died. I bet he was a nice man. Maria: He was very nice and I loved him very much. But I know he’s with God in heaven and someday we’ll be together again. Jordan: How do you know that? Maria: Because my husband believed in Jesus, and so do I. Jordan: How does that work? You just believe in Jesus and you go to heaven? Maria: Well, sort-of. The Bible tells us that Jesus was God’s Son, and that He lived here on earth a long time ago. God sent Jesus to us so that he could pay for our sins by dying on a cross. Lisa: But Jesus came back to life, didn’t he? Maria: He sure did. He didn’t stay dead – he was what we call resurrected. See, we all do bad things – we’re sinners. And God doesn’t like that. But if we believe in Jesus, we don’t get punished by God for our sins because Jesus already paid the price for us. It’s like Jesus took our punishment. Jordan: Wow – I don’t think I’ve ever had it said to me like that before. So, like if I deserve to be in trouble for stuff I did, Jesus said to God, “I’ve already paid for Jordan’s sins”? Maria: That’s exactly right, Jordan. And there’s a Bible verse that I bet you’ve heard before that talks about that. Lisa: I think I know this one! Is it John 3:16? Maria: Yes, Lisa – probably the most famous verse in the whole Bible. Almost everybody knows this verse, even if they don’t go to church. Lisa: Let’s see if I remember it. “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” Maria: That’s it - great job, Lisa! Jordan: But wait – what does that word “perish” mean? Lisa: I think it means to die. Jordan: So, if we believe in Jesus we don’t die? Wait, Maria: I thought you said your husband believed in Jesus – so why did he die? Maria: His body died, but not his soul. You see, who you really are is not your body. It’s your soul. And your soul lives forever. So this verse is telling us that if we believe in Jesus, our soul will not die – it will go to be with God forever. Jordan: I got this: So eternal life means forever. Forever’s a long time, isn’t it? Maria: It means there will not be an end to the life we live in heaven with God. Jordan: That’s pretty cool. I bet heaven is awesome. Lisa: The Bible describes it as the most beautiful place you could ever imagine. And my Grandma told me that we can’t even really imagine how awesome it’s going to be to live with God and Jesus. Maria: That’s where my husband is – and it’s where I’m going someday, too, once I’ve lived the years God wants me to here on earth and once I’ve done everything He wants me to do while I live for Him. Jordan: I want to go there, too. And I want to live for Jesus while I’m here on earth. Lisa: Me, too! Maria: Let’s go talk somewhere private about this, kids. Allan, can we leave? Allan: Of course you can. See you soon! Puppets all say “goodbye” & disappear. Allan sings “John 3:16” - Prayer & dismissal.
