Mrs. Cosio - 7th Grade Math
pause before sharpening your pencil, and no more than
one person at each sharper at any given time.
What if I fail a major or daily grade?
This manual will answer many of the questions you
may need to ask during the year. Please read the manual
carefully, and consult it again whenever necessary.
Is this for a grade?
Always
assume
the
answer
will
be
yes.
Approximately 8-12 daily and 3-5 major grades will be taken
each grading period. There will be daily homework. You
will have homework almost every day except on test days.
Make sure you do your homework as it assigned. You will
not do well on your quizzes if you do not do the homework.
All of your quizzes will be just like your homework. Therefore,
do your homework and your quiz grades will be good. This
will make your life and my life much easier.
You are responsible to come and request to make up
any failed grades, within a reasonable time period. I will
also be available for tutorial every day except for Monday
during the morning and afternoon.
What should I do if I need help with an assignment?
During class, raise your hand and please ask
questions if there is anything that you do not understand.
You can also call me or email me for help. Phone number
903-6600, email [email protected] .
When may I throw my trash away?
Only as you leave the class, please throw away all
trash.
What should my papers look like?
Work should be submitted on loose-leaf notebook
paper or plain paper and only in pencil. Do not use ripped
out paper from a spiral notebook.
Every paper you submit should have a heading in the upper
right corner. You should include your first and last name
and the date. In the center of the top line, you should title
your paper in a way that identifies the topic and/or page
numbers of the assignment. For example:
Maria Benavidez
July 27, 2015
Class Period
Lesson 1-1- Pages 223-224 #2-50 even
When do I sharpen my pencil?
You should make sure your pencil is sharpened, your
book, and paper are out by the time class is scheduled to
start. If you need to sharpen your pencil after that, then you
may do so but please be considerate of your neighbors
when moving to the sharpener, and wait for the speaker to
What if we have a fire drill?
Silently stand and go immediately to the door and
get in a straight line.
When I say, proceed to our
designated escape route. I can’t emphasize the silent part
enough. You and I both know these are drills, but don’t let
that fool you about how important they are. Would your
coach let you slack off in practice, and just hope you would
do well in the game?
May I use the restroom?
You are old enough to schedule your restroom
breaks during transition time to lunch, elective and
between classes. Our time in the classroom is very limited
and we have much to accomplish. If you find you must
leave the classroom to attend to this personal matter, you
must sign out and take a hall pass with you, and remember
you only get three lifesavers per 6-weeks. Only one person
at a time may use the restroom.
What do I need for class every day?
You will need your math binder, pencil, and paper.
May I go to my locker?
You will have time to do so during the passing period
between classes. If you must go to your locker for any
reason after class starts, you will lose a lifesaver. There are no
backpacks allowed in the room for any reason ever.
What do I do when I am finished?
What if an announcement/the office comes on the PA
system?
Whatever discussion is taking place in the room you
should immediately pause. Students should give their full
attention to the announcements. Once the speaker is
finished, students may resume classwork.
If I am out of the room, a designated student may
answer for me. Tell the office I will return in a moment, and
take a message if necessary.
How should I behave in the hallway?
If you get done with your quizzes, go over it many
times until I ask for it then pass it forward with your
homework. However, if it is a test, you cannot turn it in until
the end of the class. Please go over your test until you are
sure there are no mistakes, and believe me most of the time
there will be correctable mistakes on it. If you are sure you
have done everything, you may read a book. You will not
be able to draw or talk anytime that we are testing. The
more you go over your test the better grade you will get.
You are to never be in the hallway during classes
without a hall pass. It is my hope that you do not need to be
monitored or escorted in the hallways. Your behavior there
should demonstrate respect for the learning-taking place in
other classrooms.
Poor behavior includes; creating a
disturbance by looking into doorways and windows raised
voices, slamming lockers or supplies, horseplay.
How is make-up work handled?
What should I do when I come to class?
If you are absent from class for any reason, please
remember it is up to you to collect your assignments.
You should sit down and get your materials out do
your warm-up. The longer it takes the class to get ready to
start the quiz or test the less time you have to do it. I will not
start class until all is ready and quiet. There will be no
walking around in the classroom once inside.
Be aware that make-up work is due in a limited
amount of time. See your student handbook for further
instructions.
What if someone knocks at the door?
The student closest to the door may answer the door
and greet the visitor. If the student can help the visitor,
great! If the visitor must speak with me, the greeter should
politely ask him/her to wait. The greeter is then free to
resume working on class materials.
When may I leave?
Please do not start putting up your materials until told
to do so. Remember; you are not dismissed by a bell or
time but by the teacher.
