EUROPEAN DRILLING ACTIVITY OUTLOOK
While the North Sea has experienced declining activity
recently, new entrant players, particularly independents, are
injecting new life into older fields. Both independents and
majors are looking toward possibly higher future activity with
strong indications provided by significantly higher interest
levels in recent licensing rounds in the UK and Norway. These
and other European regions will be featured in this special
section.
PACIFIC RIM DRILLING ACTIVITY
Pacific Rim Drilling:
What’s happening in
this emerging drilling
arena.
The Pacific Rim area is more than just Singapore and shipyards. Independents and majors are active offshore Malaysia,
Indonesia, Australia, Thailand and China. This report will
review current exploration and development activity and provide an outlook for future E&P opportunities in the region.

INNOVATIVE DRILLING TECHNIQUES
Offshore Northern Seas,
24-27 Aug, Stavanger
IADC/SPE Asia Pacific
Drilling Technology
Conference, 13-15
Sept, Kuala Lumpur
Drilling contractors seek innovative drilling techniques and
new applications for existing technology in an effort to meet
increased operating demands and cost pressures of “typical”
wells, not to mention the more complex wells that are being
drilled as operators look deeper into higher pressure and
higher temperature formations for new reserves. Some of the
new and evolving technologies include underbalanced drilling,
rotary steerable drilling, coiled tubing.
