Don’t Take Away Our Right to Choose NO ONE should be forced to ingest a drug they don’t want through their drinking water. PLEASE VOTE “FOR” 1A TO END FLUORIDATION OF DURANGO CITY WATER Water Fluoridation Is Not Just About Teeth Anymore It is about citizens having a CHOICE about what we put in our bodies. It is about fluoride’s questionable SOURCE as an industrial waste product from China. It is about the growing research showing the ill effects on the HEALTH of our bodies, our children and our pets. VOTE “FOR” 1A Learn More www.CleanWaterDurango.org www.FluorideActionNetwork.com HERE’S WHY: CHOICE Sodium fluoride is considered a drug by the FDA when used to treat a medical/dental disease. www.fluoridealert.org/wp-content/uploads/fda2000a.pdf The delivery of sodium fluoride through our Durango city water system is a form of mass medication - without medical oversight. Durango residents and visitors did not agree to be treated with this drug. This policy violates Informed Consent, a required practice with any medical treatment. Water fluoridation goes against the Precautionary Principle, which demands that the introduction of a substance whose ultimate effects are disputed should be withheld to protect public health. Fluoride is difficult and expensive to remove from drinking water. Most household filters do not remove fluoride. Even reverse osmosis does not completely remove it. ! SOURCE Durango’s water is naturally fluoridated with calcium fluoride, a mineral fluoride present in the water at 0.2mg/L (milligrams per liter.) City of Durango adds sodium fluoride, a non-naturally occurring industrial waste from China, to our water at 0.5mg/L (mg/L = ppm.) www.durangogov.org/DocumentCenter/View/7775 The “City of Durango 2016 Drinking Water Consumer Confidence Report” state the source of sodium fluoride added to our water is “Discharge from fertilizer and aluminum factories.” www.durangogov.org/DocumentCenter/View/2585 Numerous sources add to our fluoride intake. Foods and beverages made, processed or grown with fluoridated water contain fluoride such as fruits and vegetables, wine, beer, coffee, tea and soft drinks. Drinking water fluoridation is harmful, we’ve been deceived to believe it is safe, and with new found knowledge we must all act now to stop it. Erin Brockovich Safe Water Advocate All Ballots must be in by April 4, 2017 HEALTH ! This warning is found on the sodium fluoride bags used in Durango’s water: “If swallowed: Immediately call a POISON CENTER or a doctor/physician.” www.cleanwaterdurango.org/durangos-fluoride-is-a-industrialwaste-from-china !Fluoride accumulates in the body, building up in bones causing skeletal fluorosis, in teeth causing dental fluorosis and in organs causing myriad health problems. www.nap.edu/read/11571/chapter/2?term=fluoride+accumulatio n#4 !Fluoride toxicity and its impact on overall health is documented in the 2006 National Academy of Science’s report “Fluoride in Drinking Water,” a comprehensive 507-page publication. This is one of over 300 studies that have found low levels of fluoride can harm developing brains. A large survey conducted by the National Institute of Dental Research showed little difference in tooth decay among children in fluoridated and nonfluoridated communities in the US. www.icnr.com/articles/national-fluoride-tooth-decay-study.html Fluoride has a protecting action against caries (cavities), but this is a local effect …If you drink it, you are running the risk of all kinds of toxic actions…This is something you should not expose citizens to. Arvid Carlsson, MD, PhD Swedish Pharmacologist 2000 Nobel Laureate in Medicine A Brief History of Water Fluoridation in America !Prior to 1940 Health officials considered fluoride a toxic element and advised the removal of excess naturally occurring calcium fluoride from water supplies. The only approved use of industrial fluoride, as sodium fluoride, was as rat and cockroach poison. In smaller doses, it was approved for an overactive thyroid gland, but was abandoned after patients suffered complete destruction of their thyroid glands. !1945 Just after World War ll, there was an excess of fluoride from manufacturing airplanes and atomic bombs. Industry, not science, led the way to ascertain that adding fluoride to drinking water reduced cavities. !Today In the U.S., 90% of fluoridated water contains either hydrofluorosilicic acid or sodium fluoride. These fluorides are obtained from the scrubbing solution of the fertilizer industry and aluminum manufacturing. By law, these scrubbing liquids cannot be released into the atmosphere or dumped into oceans, lakes, rivers or streams. The EPA, however, allows these industrial waste products to be added to our drinking water. In 2015, the EPA recommended lowering fluoride levels in drinking water due to 41% of adolescents having dental fluorosis, a sign of fluoride toxicity. www.newsweek.com/us-government-recommends-lower-levelfluoride-water-325760 Paid & Prepared (3/8/17) by Clean Water Durango www.CleanWaterDurango.org [email protected]
