Responding to customers’ needs
Yesterday and today
The top-class reputation for quality enjoyed by RÜEGER measuring instruments is the result of their precision and reliability,
satisfying thousands of users worldwide. Among these well-known users are the most renowned multinationals in the chemical,
petrochemical and engineering industries, together with thermal and nuclear power stations, research, testing and development
laboratories, the food and pharmaceutical industries and many more.
Once just the name of a modest engineering workshop, RÜEGER has become a synonym for the quality products of a worldrenowned company in a success story which has spanned 50 years.
In 1942, Ernst A. Rüeger manufactured his first bimetallic thermometer.
In 1955 the first subsidiary company, RÜEGER GmbH, was set up in West Germany to promote sales of the Swiss-made
thermometers.
In 1962 Rolf Rüeger succeeded his father at the head of the firm. Under his leadership the family business was modernized,
developed and made into a limited company. Soon the Lausanne premises became too small and in 1967 a new factory was built at
nearby Crissier, allowing the company to meet the growing market demand and satisfy increasingly strict quality requirements.
In 1991 Bernard Rüeger, grandson of the founder, became Managing Director, and shortly afterwards his younger brother,
Jean-Marc, became a Board member and took responsibility for production.
In 1997, RÜEGER Sdn Bhd opened in Malaysia in order to offer better service to our agents and clientele located in South-East
Asia. In the same year, the production area at Crissier was doubled so that our sensors could be manufactured in the best
possible conditions.
In 2006, RÜEGER opens its subsidiary BEIJING RÜEGER PRECISION INSTRUMENT CO. LTD, China.
RÜEGER’s success can be attributed to the three objectives of its corporate philosophy: innovation, quality and diversity. Innovation
– to ensure that products always respond to the demands of the market; quality – to be certain that instruments remain
accurate over a long service life even under severe operating conditions; diversity – to be capable of providing exactly the right
instrument for every application.
By carefully incorporating these objectives into every aspect of its policy, RÜEGER has kept its position as a world leader in the
manufacture of instruments for the measurement of temperature and pressure.

RÜEGER S.A. of Crissier (near Lausanne), Switzerland, now into
its third generation of dynamic and enthusiastic family management, has consistently set the pace in the fields of temperature
measurement and instrumentation.
Employing more than 160 people, and with a firmly established
network of more than 60 agents in Europe, Asia and elsewhere,
RÜEGER has specialized in the development and manufacture
of temperature measurement instruments, particularly thermometers with bimetallic measuring systems, since it was founded
in 1942 in Lausanne. Over the last 20 years the company has
considerably diversified its product range through constant
research and development; today the bimetallic and gas
pressure thermometers and electrical temperature sensors are
complemented by industrial pressure gauges.
In addition to being well established in Europe and Asia, the
firm has an international network of over 60 agents.
Thermometers with bimetallic or gas pressure measuring systems
The biggest range in the world
A compact active stem, high reliability, resistance to vibration, shock and corrosion, perfect readability – the list of features of
RÜEGER bimetallic system thermometers is impressive. These instruments measure to an accuracy of 1% over the full range,
with a repetition error of less than 0.5%. Bimetallic thermometers are extremely reliable when measuring temperatures between
–70 and +600 degrees Celsius.
For applications down to the region of absolute zero (-264°C), or as high as +800°C, the RÜEGER range of gas pressure thermometers is available. A feature of these instruments is their diversity: remote reading models (up to 100 m distance) can be
specified, as well as rigid stem models.
Both bimetallic system and gas pressure thermometers can be used as control devices as well as for temperature indication, by
fitting electrical contacts chosen from an extremely wide range of mechanical, inductive or pneumatic types.
Electrical probes and sensors
Tailor-made
RÜEGER has expanded its know-how into a comprehensive range of resistance thermometers and thermocouples. These
technologies are indispensable for situations where the temperature within an aggressive or dangerous environment (vibration,
radioactivity, explosive atmosphere etc.) has to be measured. In addition, electrical systems can function over an extremely wide
range: right down to –260°C and up to +1800°C.
Looking at current trends in engineering, future applications for these instruments appear practically unlimited. Today, RÜEGER
is the acknowledged expert in the special and multiple applications required by the world’s biggest engineering consultants.
Mass-produced thermometers
Saving energy
In the central heating, hot water distribution, ventilation and air conditioning sector, the rule-of-thumb temperature measurement methods of the past are now inadequate – efficient energy saving needs accurate data! RÜEGER’s new high quality,
mass-produced SwissTemp thermometers provide a low-cost, dependable solution for this wide field of applications.
Thermometers for domestic use
Indoors and outdoors
RÜEGER thermometers are not only of industrial but also of domestic use: in the home they help to get the meat roasted, to
serve wine at the right temperature, and keep apartments comfortably warm. RÜEGER is also manufacturing a small thermometer ruler, accompanied by the famous Swiss Army Knife “Victorinox”.
Thermowells
Keeping the equipment safe
RÜEGER supplies all types of protective thermowells – usually specified by the user – in numerous metals and alloys, and with or
without coatings made from various materials. Pockets give complete protection against corrosion, pressure surges, etc. and also
allow measuring instruments to be changed without interrupting the process.
Industrial pressure gauges
Performance and diversity
RÜEGER offers high-performance industrial pressure gauges (general-purpose and all-stainless), in the three main categories:
bourdon tube, diaphragm, and capsule. The range also includes differential pressure gauges, chemical seals, liquid-filled gauges
and electrical contacts, for general industrial use. Customized pressure gauges for a wide variety of special applications are also
supplied on request.
