Elizabeth 1729 Parentage Possibilities

Elizabeth 1729 Parentage Possibilities
I don’t believe we know yet who Elizabeth’s parents were nor when or where she was born. It is
likely that she was born about 1729 in Maryland as was her husband William Aldridge. Some
have suggested that she was a Symmons, but the Elizabeth Symons that married a William
Aldridge in Maryland did so in 1726, three years before William 1729 was born.
Others have indicated that Elizabeth 1729 may have been a McMasters, perhaps because she was
buried in the “McMasters Cemetery”. The Kivett family organization has, for some years,
maintained the McMasters Cemetery and the earliest McMasters they have identified from
grames in the McMasters Cemetery was born 1770. They have not been able to identify all of the
graves in the cemetery, but I find no evidence of any McMasters owning property in that area in
the mid-1700's. While it is possible the McMasters followed their relative (Elizabeth) to North
Carolina much later than she arrived there, I expect that the McMasters family purchased land
from the Alldredges when the Alldredges were leaving in 1771 (after the Battle of Alamance) or
in 1810 (when some of the Alldredges and Kivetts moved to Tennessee and Indiana). If William
Aldridge had already been buried there, the McMasters may have simply buried their dead there
and, with more McMasters graves than Aldridges or Kivetts, may have come to call the cemetery
by their own name.
Research Notes – Parsons
Elizabeth 1729's surname may have been Parsons. Her son Ezekiel named one of his sons
Parsons and it was a common practice to name a child after the surname of the mother. Ezekiel
did not name any children with his wife's surname, presumably because Huff would not have
been a suitable first name. Several Parsons families lived in North Carolina in the early 1700’s,
including one near Deep River where William 1729 and Elizabeth lived, but so far no connection
has been confirmed.
The following might be considered to be Elizabeth 1729’s family. They are listed by a possible
