TEASER
EXT. HIGH SCHOOL PARKING LOT - DAY (FLASHBACK)
The parking lot of the high school has only a few cars. At
the back, where the parking lot overlooks the football field,
Jesse’s low-rider and one other car are parked.
JESSE (18) leans up against his low-rider, smoking a
cigarette, looking off into the sky.
BADGER (18) is nearby throwing rocks out onto the football
field where football practice is going on.
BADGER
He’s going deep...
Badger throws a rock.
CLOSE ON: a rock lands in the grass at the feet of TWO
FOOTBALL PLAYERS.
BADGER(CONTD)
Uncomplete pass!
The Two Football Players look over at Badger. He puts his
hands in his pockets and walks away.
He walks up alongside Jesse.
JESSE
God, this town is so boring. I
swear, once I get enough bank I’m
just gonna leave... straight up,
hop on 66 and just drive.
BADGER
Okay. When?
JESSE
I don’t know... but soon.
Across the parking lot, Jesse sees WALT (early 40’s; with
hair) going to his car. Walt carries a big molecular
chemistry model -- the red and blue plastic balls connected
in a semi-rigid form. Walt tries to open up his trunk, but
some of the balls get disconnected and fall to the ground.

All I know is I’m not living in
Albequerque the rest of my life,
wearing dockers and drinking
coffee.
BADGER
I kinda like coffee.
JESSE
Yeah, coffee’s alright I guess. I
just meant... never mind.
There is a long silence. Jesse stares at the ground.
BADGER
Hey, yo. Why don’t we pick up some
Robetussin tonight? Get our robotrip on.
Badger starts doing the robot.
JESSE
Nah, that stuff’s weak, yo.
Besides, I can’t tonight. I
gotta... meet this guy, sell some
of this green, make some green. You
feel me?
BADGER
Alright, well I’ll come with...
JESSE
Nah, I’m not really supposed to
bring other people. This dude’s
like totally sketch.
Jesse opens up his door and gets in his car.
Yeah. Ok.
BADGER
JESSE
I’ll call you when I’m done though.
BADGER
Yeah. Cool, man.
Jesse’s car backs up and drives away.

EXT. JENNY’S HOUSE - DAY (FLASHBACK)
Jesse pulls up in his low-rider to his aunt’s house -- the
house Jesse lived in when we first met him.
INT. JENNY’S HOUSE - BEDROOM - DAY (FLASHBACK)
Jesse’s aunt, JENNY (50), is lying in bed. She’s hooked up to
a few machines and an IV drip.
She and NURSE LILLY are going through a picture book. The
nurse holds the book and Jenny struggles to point to a
picture.
JENNY
My gosh, look at my hair on me.
Jesse knocks on the doorway and smiles.
Hey.
JESSE
Both the Nurse and Jenny smile. Lilly gets up to put the book
away.
JENNY
Lilly, tell my Jesse nephew here to
stop coming to see me and get a
life already.
LILLY
Well, I think you’re very lucky.
Jenny watches with pride as Jesse takes a seat where Lilly
was just sitting. Jenny takes Jesse’s hand in her hands.
JENNY
I was joking. Of course I know I’m
lucky.
LILLY
Jesse, I’ll just be in the kitchen
if you need me.
JESSE
Alright, Lilly. Thank you.
Lilly exits. Jenny has just been staring at Jesse with
admiration. Jesse smiles but looks a bit uncomfortable with
her staring.

It’s alright. You know. It’s
school.
JENNY
You making good... making good A’s?
JESSE
Not really. I’m doing alright
though.
JENNY
That’s good. You making good grades
though?
Jesse’s eyes begin to water. He nods his head.
JESSE
Yeah, Jenny. All A’s.
Jenny’s eyes close. She looks unbearably tired.
JENNY
That’s great. Listen, Jesse. I
wanted you to give me something.
JESSE
What did you want me to give you?
Jenny’s eyes open.
JENNY
No. I want you to have... from me.
Oh.
JESSE
Jenny musters the biggest smile she can.

Jenny smiles, Jesse can’t help but smile back.

ACT ONE
INT. LAUNDRY FACILITY - UPSTAIRS - NIGHT
Mike and Walt are standing, facing one another. Mike has his
gun in one hand and his phone in the other.
A fly lands on Mike’s bald head. Mike doesn’t seem to notice
and the fly quickly buzzes away.
WALT
Look, if you’re not going to let me
talk to Gus, then maybe we... you
and I, could discuss our options.
MIKE
I don’t think you’re really in a
position to negotiate here.
WALT
I’m just saying you probably don’t
feel like explaining to your boss
that you let this situation get out
of hand. So, maybe there are other
possibilities here.
Mike brings the gun up and casually waves it in rhythm to his
response.
MIKE
How about the possibility that I
put a hole in your head as soon as
I hear that Victor has done the
same to Pinkman. Don’t get ahead of
yourself here, Walter. Do you
really have confidence in that
junky?
Stung by the question, Walt’s confidence fades.
MIKE (CONTD)
That’s what I thought.
Walt moves to his right causing Mike to quickly raise his
gun.
WALT
I’m just gonna sit...
Mike lowers the gun a bit. Walt sits on the ground against an
industrial-sized laundry bin.

WALT (CONTD)
Do you have kids, Mike?
Mike stares down at Walt, but seems to look past him.
WALT (CONTD)
Of course you’re not going to tell
me. Anyway, my son has his first
driving test tomorrow. He has
cerebral palsy, and-MIKE
I’m not just gonna let you go
because of some sob story.
WALT
Oh, no. That’s not-MIKE
You made your bed.
WALT
Right... But, maybe you’ll just
allow me to think out loud here.
Considering our situation...
Mike doesn’t respond. Walt takes that as a ‘yes.’
WALT (CONTD)
The doctors discovered it almost
immediately after he was born. But,
they couldn’t tell if it was going
to be a really severe form of it or
not. Still, Skyler and I just
started to feel miserable. Here we
had brought this life into the
world that now was always going to
struggle, and going to feel
different from everyone else. But
after a while we realized: that’s
just life, no matter who you are.
Mike actually seems to be carefully listening.
WALT (CONTD)
More than that, we realized that
now there was this person that
looked to us for love. So, that’s
what we gave him. Even when it took
until the age of three before he
could walk, we just looked at him
with nothing but love. Because
that’s what he needed.

It was almost as if... that because

and for ourselves, that his CP
wasn’t as bad as it could have
been.

Walt stares off, looking proud and happy.
WALT (CONTD)
And now he’s going to be driving
himself around and...
Mike’s phone starts to ring. Both men don’t move: Mike
continues staring at Walt, who stares off into space.
Finally, Mike picks it up.
MIKE
(into phone)
Yeah?
Walt finally turns to look up at Mike.
MIKE (CONTD)
(into phone)
Is there anywhere you think he
might have gone?... Then take a
look there... No, I’ll call Gus.
Mike hangs up the phone. He looks at Walt, who stares ahead
and smiles.
Mike paces around as he looks at his phone.
WALT
Never too late to switch teams, you
know.
Mike seems to consider it for a second. Then, he decidedly
hits a button on his phone and puts it up to his ear.
MIKE
Not everyone avoids their
comeuppance, Walter.
Off Walt’s face.

the machine when the Pac-Man theme song starts playing. Jesse
flinches.
Jesse sets the gun down. He hurries around to the front of
the machine. The song plays on a continual loop.
He looks around at the various buttons on the front. He slaps
them with frustration.

JESSE
Jesse begins searching all around the front and sides.
JESSE (CONTD)
Or a frickin’... off switch!?
The arcade screen displays Pac-Man being chased by ghosts.
Then the ghosts turn blue and Pac-Man turns to chase them.
Jesse goes to the back panel. He frantically rips out wires
from inside the machine. The song continues to play.
Jesse then kicks the machine in a fit of rage.
He pushes it with all his might. It tips back and forth.
Finally, he pushes it over. It crashes and the Pac-Man song
dies out.
Jesse stands over the machine, breathing heavily.

He drops the last of the bills in and flushes. He stares down

heading towards the door, then suddenly changes direction and

He then turns on the sink. He scoops water up to his mouth.
He swallows some, then immediately vomits it out.

Jesse stands over his pipe and bag of blue meth on the ground
near the wall. He picks them up.
He walks to a nearby race car video game with a built-in
racing seat. He sits down.
He loads the pipe. He hesitates. He lights the pipe and
inhales.
He leans back in the chair and closes his eyes as he exhales.
He opens his eyes. He puts his hands on the video game
steering wheel.

It turns onto a main street.
Across the street Victor’s car turns on its headlights, pulls
onto the street and follows Jesse’s car from about a halfblock back.
INT. HANK AND MARIE'S HOUSE - NIGHT
ENTER ON: Hank’s bare feet sticking up at the end of the bed.
Hank has the TV remote in hand and flips through channels.
But, he can’t keep from glancing at his lifeless feet.
Marie comes in with a tray of food.
HANK
Hey, put the blanket over my feet,
will ya?
MARIE
Oh no. That’s to remind you to keep
trying to move ‘em.
Marie sets the tray on Hank’s lap. Hank continues flipping
through channels and eventually it lands on “COPS.”
HANK

INT. LAUNDRY FACILITY - UPSTAIRS - NIGHT
A large metal garage door is heard opening. Walt scrambles to

where dim light now shines around a corner.
BODYGUARD #1 comes around a corner. He holds a submachine
gun. He stares at Walter and Mike.
MIKE
It’s clear.
Bodyguard #1 continues thoroughly looking around the area. He
then goes back towards the corner.
Walt looks at Mike. Mike keeps looking towards where the man

WALT
That’s funny. You never struck me

GUS
Yes. Perhaps we should look ahead.

Philip.
Philip comes up alongside Gus. He is unarmed. In any other
situation, he would appear totally pleasant. Still, Walt
can’t help but nervously study Philip.
GUS (CONTD)
You will show Philip how to cook?
WALT
A new lab partner? That’s your
solution?
GUS
No. That was your solution, when
you convinced me that hiring that
junky was a good idea. Instead, you
will show this man how to cook...
and then our partnership shall
conclude.
WALT
And, if I am to do this, what sort
of assurance can you give that
afterwards you won’t just... do

Gus stares blankly at Walt -- he’s not promising anything.
WALT (CONTD)
And if I were to refuse?
Gus pulls out his phone. Walt watches nervously.

Jesse takes a right.
He watches in his mirror. The red car comes around the
corner.
Jesse then jerks his car into another right turn. He guns it
down a residential street.
He hangs another right.
Then an immediate left. He guns it towards a stop sign.
He looks in his rear-view mirror. He rolls through the stop
sign, taking another right.
Now on a main street, he takes a quick look back at the
corner from which he turned. He then looks ahead and smiles
as he breathes hard.
JESSE
Yeah, Bitch! You like those driving

Just then, cop lights flash in his mirror and the siren soon

Jesse’s already-wide eyes suddenly seem to pop out of his

COP #1 gets out of his car. He approaches Jesse’s car.

You have a call to make!
Victor pops out and shoots. The bullet hits close to Philip,
causing him to flinch.
Walt gets up, hobbles to the hard-line phone. Victor pops out
aiming at Walt, doesn’t shoot, then ducks for cover again.
Walt grabs the phone behind his back, he hurries back to Gus
and drops it near him.
Call them!
WALT (CONTD)
Gus’s eyes are open, he just stares at Walt as he holds his
bleeding gut with both hands.
Walt then steps on Gus’s hands. Gus cringes.
WALT (CONTD)
It’s good to know you are human.
Now, please!
GUS
I don’t know the number... It’s in

takes a bullet to the head and falls back.
Victor then steps over Philip’s body.
Victor stands above Walt and Gus...
GUS
(in Spanish)
Cartel? You piece of-Victor shoots Gus dead. Walt looks at Gus.
No.
WALT
Then, Victor just walks away. Walt stares down at Gus. He
looks quickly to the clock, it reads: 12:56.
Walt can’t hear anything besides his beating heart. Walt
feels the cell phone in his hands. His hands shake, but he
pushes the talk button.
WALT (CONTD)
Please. Please.
He flicks the phone in front of him and reads the screen:
REDIAL FAILED - (505) 555-1292.
Walt grabs the hard-line phone. He picks up the receiver. He
dials 5-0-5-5-5-5-1-2-9-2. He lays on his side, putting his
ear up to the receiver. Then, the phone is kicked away from
him.
Walt looks up to see that Victor is with TWO MEN WITH SKIMASKS. They grab Walt and put a bag over his head.

(Incoherently babbling)
MARIE
Sure, honey. Whatever you say.
(to Jr.)
Hey, could I get a little help
here?
Marie grunts as she tries to move Skyler to the hallway.
Walter, Jr. grabs his crutches and walks over to the two of
them.
He walks alongside them, trying to figure out how he could
help.
WALTER, JR.
What did you want me to do exactly?
MARIE
(sighs)
I guess, you can get the bedroom
door.
Walter, Jr. looks down the hallway.
WALTER, JR.
Looks like it’s already open.
Frustrated, Marie puts Skyler up against the wall to rest.
MARIE
Well. Then I guess I got it from

couch or something.
Walter, Jr. seems a bit put off. Marie notices.

Marie pulls the covers over Skyler. Jr. walks out of the
room.
Marie turns to walk out, as well.
Marie.
SKYLER
MARIE
Yeah, sweety?
Marie stops and turns to Skyler. Skyler begins making a weird
sort of crying noise.
MARIE (CONTD)
Are you gonna throw up again?
Marie grabs a nearby wastebasket. She brings it over to the

STATE TROOPER #1
Hey. What are you doing back there?
JESSE
Dude, this is like torture with my
hands behind my back. I’m just
gonna slip them under my legs.

sir.
Jesse slouches back, keeping his hands behind his back.

Suddenly, a tire blows out. State Trooper #1 grabs the

are wide and he braces himself. But, State Trooper #1 brings
the car to a stop.
JESSE
Yo, what the hell was that?
STATE TROOPER #1
That’s what’s commonly referred to
as a flat tire.
JESSE
Yeah, but don’t they like check
these cars all the time. I mean
stuff like that doesn’t usually
happen to cop cars, right?
STATE TROOPER #1
Just calm down. I’m gonna go take
care of it. It’ll be two seconds.
State Trooper #1 exits the car, walks to the trunk and opens
the trunk. Jesse nervously looks around.

think we wouldn’t be able to track
down our own vehicles?
The on-board navigation shows an arrow (their car) heading
