Senior Research Scientist Likarda is at the forefront of providing cell-based therapies for companion animals. We are seeking a Senior Research Scientist to join a multidisciplinary R&D team in a fast-paced, challenging environment advancing novel cell-based therapies through development to market. The successful candidate will contribute scientific research and leadership to the development of Likarda’s celltherapy for diabetes in companion animals. This position will primarily focus as a laboratory-based scientist, and requires strong experimental skills in cell biology, stem cell biology, tissue engineering regenerative medicine, or cell-based therapies, preferably with experience in development of regulated cell-therapies. The candidate will also provide leadership to a growing team of scientists and technicians as the team brings products through the development pipeline. The candidate will also work closely with management to determine pipeline R&D efforts leading to commercially successful products. Key Responsibilities/Objectives Plan, implement and provide scientific guidance and leadership for research and development of cells for therapies for companion animals. Bench-level, hands-on participation in applying stem cell and other customary cell culture methods to develop, maintain and expand cellular solutions. This includes evaluating and translating literature into standard operating procedures and new applications. Develop and oversee quality measures for eventual cellular transplants. Develop and apply cell maintenance and cell differentiation protocols that can be used to create disease specific cell treatments. Apply automation and other cell scaling methodologies to convert lab scale to market scale. Communicate with project teams and colleagues effectively and work well with others to meet experimental goals. Manage relationships with contract research organizations and consultants. Closely collaborate/interact with management in determining product pipelines and R&D efforts. Qualifications Ph.D. in biological science or engineering and a minimum of 3 years experience or postdoctoral training in cell biology and cell culture. M.S. in biological science or engineering and a minimum of 5 years experience in cell biology, cell culture, preferably with biotech/pharma experience. Knowledge and experience in cell biology and cell culture, preferably with industry-level cell culture experience. Experience in in vitro and in vivo cell-based assays, biochemical assays, microscopy and image analysis. Ability to plan and execute experiments, evaluate and interpret data and troubleshoot. Demonstrate ability to multi-task effectively and work in a dynamic and changing environment. Excellent verbal, written communication and presentation skills are essential. Preferably experienced with stem cells or cutting-edge cell-therapy techniques. Preferably experienced in a biotechnology industry setting. Preferably experienced cell differentiation, cell expansion and diseased cell models.
