Fabric Requirements: Useable width of fabric should be 42 ½” wide Stripe must run the length of the fabric 48” x 64” Stripe: 1.5 m (1 2/3 yd) on lengthwise grain Fabric A 1.0 m (1 1/8 yd) Fabric B 0.55 m ( 5/8 yd) Fabric C 0.55 m ( 5/8 yd) 2.35 m 64” x 80” (2 2/3 yd) 1.0 m 0.55 m 0.55 m (1 1/8 yd) ( 5/8 yd) ( 5/8 yd) 0.25 m ( ¼ yd) 0.85 m ( 7/8 yd) 0.3 m 1.0 m ( 1/3 yd) (1 1/8 yd) Option - Cornerstone Border Border Inner 0.25 m ( ¼ yd) Border Outer 0.7 m ( ¾ yd) 0.3 m 0.9 m ( 1/3 yd) ( 1 yd) 0.55 m ( 5/8 yd) Plain Border Border Inner Border Outer Binding: 2 ½” strips 0.45 m ( ½ yd) Striped Squares: NOTE: Fabric must be cut with the stripe. These squares are made larger and then trimmed down to 8 ½” square. Cut EIGHT 4 ¾” strips by the length of the fabric. Cut 72 (128) triangles as shown in the diagram below. 9 ½” 45 9 ½” 45 90 Sew all of the quarter square triangles together to make 18 (32) squares. NOTE: the stripe is going around the square. Trim these squares to 8 ½” square. Rail Fence: Fabric A: 3 (7) 4” strips. Fabric B: 3 (7) 2 ¾” strips. Fabric C: 3 (7) 2 ¾” strips. Make 3 (7) strip sets of Fabric B – Fabric A – Fabric C. Each strip set should be 8 ½” wide. Cut 17 (31) 8 ½” squares. Cut: Quilt Top: Layout as shown in the diagram below. NOTE the different directions of the rail fence blocks. Sew the squares together in rows. Press to the Rail Fence squares. Sew the rows together. Option - Cornerstone Border: NOTE: Fabric must be cut with the stripe. These squares are made larger and then trimmed down to 4 ¾” square. Cut ONE 3 1/8” strip by 57” lengthwise. Cut 16 (16) triangles as shown in the diagram below from the remaining striped fabric. 6 1/4” 45 6 1/4” 45 90 Sew all of the quarter square triangles together to make 4 (4) squares. NOTE: the stripe is going around the square. Trim these squares to 4 ¾” square. Inner Border: Cut 5 (7) 1 ¼”strips. Outer Border: Cut 5 (7) 4” strips Sew the inner border strips and the outer border strips together. Should be 4 ¾” wide. Measure the quilt from the top raw edge to the bottom raw edge in 3 different places in the middle of the quilt. Calculate the average length. Cut the 2 border strips, at the same time, this length. Sew to the sides of the quilt. Press to the outside. Measure the quilt from side raw edge to other side raw edge in 3 different places in the middle of the quilt. Calculate the average width. Cut the 2 border strips this width. Sew ONE border corner to each end of these two strips. Sew to the top and the bottom of the quilt. Press to the outside. Plain Border: Inner Border: Cut 6 (8) 1 ¼”strips. Outer Border: Cut 6 (8) 4” strips Measure the quilt from the top raw edge to the bottom raw edge in 3 different places in the middle of the quilt. Calculate the average length. Cut the 2 border strips, at the same time, this length. Sew to the sides of the quilt. Press to the outside. Measure the quilt from side raw edge to other side raw edge in 3 different places in the middle of the quilt. Calculate the average width. Cut the 2 border strips this width. Sew to the top and the bottom of the quilt. Press to the outside. Finishing: Layer, quilt, and bind as desired.
