Printable K-1 Brochure - Cary Academy Summer Programs

ADVENTURE
Ready . . . Set . . . WOAH!
Instructor: Summer Programs at Cary Academy
Creativity is contagious when you get a taste of what the older campers do at summer camp.
Experience the smells coming from the kitchen, perform a concert made of handmade instruments,
finger-paint the next Van Gogh, and watch what happens when food color is mixed with bubbles.
Combine all those experiences for a fun and adventurous week. Let your interest and personality
shine through and give back to the community through simple acts of service. We will have daily
adventures and visits from guest instructors. At the end of the day all you can say is, “WOAH!”

firm in order to build things in 3D: a hockey rink, football stadium, golf course, art gallery, museum,
roller coaster theme park, aquarium or whatever else you can fathom! Our grandparents and
special friends will be able to add their worldly experience and expertise to help design these new
architecural wonders, and add their own special details to the finished pieces. As future architects,
learn about perspective drawing and go outdoors to draw the architecture of Cary Academy. For
the final project our creative engineering skills will be challenged with the classic “egg drop” project
where teams design a device to protect an egg from a 15 foot drop as campers from other summer

Cooking Lab
Instructor: Diane Rokuskie
Instructor: Diane Rokuskie
Why do muffins rise? What makes popcorn
pop? Find out the answers to these and more
questions during a super fun week that is one
part cooking camp and one part science
camp. Each day will find us focusing on a new
recipe and the science that makes it possible.
First, we will experiment in our kitchen lab, then
we will put our findings to the ultimate test: a
taste test. Join us as we discover why, without
science, the kitchen would be a boring and not
so tasty place to be.
Grab your aprons and follow us into the kitchen
where we will open the pages of some of our
favorite books and cook up the recipes they
inspire. From spaghetti with a yeti to cookies
and milk with a mouse, our hands-on cooking
environment will help you gain the skills and
confidence you need to become great
beginner cooks. Beyond the kitchen we will
continue the fun and adventure with discovery
stations specially designed to further support
cooking skills and dig even deeper into each of
the books we highlight. Reading, playing and
cooking, what could be better?
