The Capitol Steps provide welcome respite from 24/7 cable news with bipartisan lampoonery of the 2016
presidential campaign. Born at a Senate staff Christmas party, the Capitol Steps have come up from the
trenches to attempt to be funnier than Congress. They put the “mock” in democracy with award-winning
political musical satire. Over the years, the group has recorded over 34 albums and comprised performers
working a total of 18 Congressional offices and representing 62 years of collective House and Senate staff
experience. Their newest album and live comedy concert celebrates a lame-duck president in a battle of wits
with his candidate counterparts. The troupe can be heard twice a year on NPR stations nationwide during
their Politics Takes a Holiday radio specials.

PILOBOLUS DANCE THEATER PRESENTS
Created in collaboration with the lead writer for the popular animated series SpongeBob SquarePants,
Shadowland is both intensely dramatic and comedic. As the first theatrical event of its kind to tour the globe,
Shadowland incorporates multiple moving screens of different sizes and shapes, creating a full-length
performance which tells the “coming of age” story of a young girl’s surreal experience in a sensational world.
Shadowland is part shadow act, part dance, part circus, and part concert. It’s a groundbreaking performance
combining Pilobolus’ legendary approach to modern dance merging fast-paced multimedia innovation with

INDIE-FOLK BAND
Known for their harmony-laced take on alt-folk, The Hunts are a Chesapeake, Virginia based band of seven
siblings who’ve been playing music together almost their entire lives. Twin sisters and five brothers, now
ranging in age from 26 down to 17, have played theaters, festivals, and universities around the country –
playing diverse instruments like mandolin, piano, ukulele, banjo, and drums. Inspired by shared memories,
The Hunts create songs that capture heartache and wonder with a wide-eyed, but wistful elegance. The Hunts’

Trotter and his horrible aunts–and how some magic beans, a peach tree,
and a collection of interesting insects conspire to change his life. Adapted
into a musical, the story comes to life with innovative puppetry,
a spunky soundtrack, and bright characters that will have you on the
edge of your seat.

J.M. Synge’s Irish dark comedy is sure to delight the hearts of those who have lifted a pint to the glories of
Ireland. During a quarrel, young Christy Mahon strikes his father with a spade and leaves him for dead. He
finds his way to the village pub where he is lauded as a hero for his deed. But his father is not dead and comes
looking for his cowardly son. The quarrel continues with humorous and unforeseen results.

The University of Dubuque Wendt Character Initiative promotes a campus culture of excellent moral character
and purposeful lives. It seeks to embed character concerns into the curriculum and co-curricular activities. The Initiative also includes particular programs such as Wendt Character Scholars (60 scholarship students
committed to Wendt values), public lectures, book discussions, faculty grants, and a character/ethics library
collection.

MONDAY, OCTOBER 24, 2016 - 7:00 P.M.
FATHER GREGORY BOYLE
As the founder and CEO of Homeboy Industries, Father Gregory Boyle has
dedicated his life to helping LA’s most marginalized individuals find a place
in society’s ranks. He has become a beacon of hope around the world, and was
just selected as one of the White House Champions of Change. Born in 1988,
Homeboy Industries has its roots in the poorest community in Los Angeles. As
a response to eight warring gangs, entrenched in two public housing projects
(the largest grouping of public housing west of the Mississippi), Homeboy Industries grew “from below.”
“I buried my first young person killed because of this gang sadness in 1988. I buried my 194th three months
ago,” says Father G, as he is affectionately called on the streets. As a nonprofit organization, Homeboy employs
and trains hundreds of formerly gang-involved and previously incarcerated men and women every year in seven

Quentin Schultze has been a communication professor and the Arthur H.
DeKruyter Chair at Calvin College, a “Distinguished Professor” at Spring Arbor
College, and a prolific writer, speaker, and consultant. Frequently quoted by
major media, Schultze writes and speaks about ways to improve our service
to others through our communication. His work on virtue and technology
reflects that passion, as do his many other books on the media, interpersonal
communication, servant leadership, and even resume writing.

FACILITY AND PATRON INFORMATION
For all events occurring in Heritage Center performance facilities, doors open for seating 30 minutes prior to
curtain. Latecomers will be seated at management’s discretion.
Heritage Center events welcome children who are accompanied by a parent and who are able to sit quietly for
the duration of the concert. All children are required to have a ticket and to occupy their own seat. If a child
creates a disturbance you will be asked to leave the hall or theatre out of courtesy to the performers and other
patrons. Strollers and infant car seats are prohibited inside performance facilities.
Patrons with special needs should notify the box office at the time of ticket purchase. Handicapped parking,
wheelchair seating, hearing assist devices, and other special services will be provided as available and on
a “best effort” basis. Sign language interpretation requests will be fulfilled pending sufficient advance
notice and availability of interpreters. Elevators are available to access all levels of Heritage Center. Sound
enhancement is offered through hearing-assist listening devices. Devices are available at no extra charge
upon request through a house manager or usher. ID required.
Heritage Center events are only cancelled if performers are unable to perform due to weather conditions.
No refunds will be issued to audience members who are unable to attend a scheduled performance.
Tickets for Heritage Center events may be donated back to the box office for resale. Tickets that are returned at
least 48 hours in advance are considered tax-deductible donations. A receipt of your donation can be provided
upon request. All tickets are non-refundable.

Give the gift of the arts! Gift certificates can be used towards the purchase of tickets to events presented or

6:30 to 7:00 p.m. Oftentimes when pre-show lectures
are not offered, special concerts are offered on the

CYBERCAFÉ
Just inside the Heritage Center South Tower entrance with seating for
124, the Cybercafé is a beautiful,light-filled, colorful space for
audience-goers to enjoy a meal or snack before or after the show. The
floor-to-ceiling glass curtain wall in the café creates an environment
for diners simulating both an indoor and outdoor experience all at once.
In spring, summer, and fall, patrons might also enjoy sitting on the
outdoor patio adjacent to the Cybercafé.
99% of Cybercafé sauces are made from recipes created by our own
cooks and include pizza sauce, marinara, alfredo, Asian BBQ, sweet and
sour, teriyaki, General Tsao, Kung Pao, and Peanut. Unique sandwich spreads are also homemade – avocado,
Cajun, Chipotle, ranch, and others are custom made for special occasions. Soups and salads are all made
from scratch – the lettuce/spinach salads, egg, tuna, chicken, and crab. We hand cut our own pork, chicken,
salami, broccoli, peppers, onions and more! We build our pizzas right before your eyes, as well as all sandwiches,
and your Asian grill favorites. Customize your own individual pizza (2:00 p.m. - close only), deli sandwich,
hot sandwich, or Asian grill creation. Come and join us, we look
forward to making your new favorites!
