Memorial Award Application Essay Questions Sol Feinstone Memorial Award The recipient of this award is honored for their participation in, leadership of, or personal accomplishment of constructive social and/or educational change inside or outside of the University community. This award is open to sophomores, juniors, and seniors. Write ONE essay to answer ALL of the following Questions: 1. What social and/or educational programs have you participated in within or outside of the University community? 2. What skills have you demonstrated to create change within these programs in the University community? 3. How do you plan to use these skills in the future? Schafer Memorial Award The award honors a junior or senior who has demonstrated a commitment for a better society for all people through social action. Write ONE essay to answer ALL of the following Questions: 1. What community service activities have you been involved with while a student at Temple University? 2. How have your social action activities affected your views on society? 3. How have your actions benefitted the community as a whole? Please limit your essay to 500 words or less. Dorothy A. Seegers Memorial Award Awarded annually in honor of Dorothy A. Seegers, who made a significant contribution to Temple University from 1943 to 1979 as a student, employee, and administrator. The award is given to a fulltime graduating senior who has demonstrated a concern for others and has shown dedication and loyalty to Temple University. Write ONE essay to answer ALL of the following Questions: 1. Describe what actions you have demonstrated at Temple University that would make you the best candidate for this award. 2. How has your dedication and loyalty to Temple University impacted the University community? 3. Adeline and Marvin Wachman Memorial Award This fund was created to award a current freshman and sophomore who possess high academic achievement, significant participation and promise of leadership in co-curricular activities at Temple University. The third scholarship will be awarded to an incoming freshman that will be selected by the Admissions Office. Write ONE essay to answer ALL of the following Questions: 1. In what ways do you feel you demonstrate leadership among your peers at Temple University? 2. How do you currently contribute to your Temple University community? 3. Walker Memorial Award This award is presented to a student in good academic standing who demonstrates University leadership as well as service to the broader community. How has your leadership and service contributed to the broader community? 3. How would you get the Temple community more involved? Please limit your essay to 500 words or less. Whittaker Award Awarded annually in honor of Raymond Whittaker, the director of Student Activities who helped Lewis Katz establish an entertainment and lecture series for students in the early 1960’s. This award is given to a full-time junior or senior who has demonstrated innovative and entrepreneurial leadership in furthering student activities to benefit students and the community. Write ONE essay to answer ALL of the following Questions: 1. How have your entrepreneurial skills and innovative leadership impacted the students and community? 2. What are some of your innovative ideas to benefit student life on campus? 3. How would you go about implementing this or these ideas into Temple’s campus? Jerry Zaslow Memorial Award The award is presented to a student who has best demonstrated high academic achievement as well as well-rounded activity within the University and the community.
