WHAT IS AN SPCC PLAN?
• The SPCC (Spill Prevention Control and Counter measures) program was designed to prevent oil spills into
navigable waters and adjoining shorelines. The program requires farms with oil storage to a spill prevention
plan in place. These plans are designed to help tank owners prevent oil spills and provide the necessary
steps to take if a spill were to occur at your farm.

DOES MY FARM NEED AN SPCC PLAN?
SPCC applies to farms which:
• Stores, transfers, uses, or consumes oil or oil products such as diesel fuel, gasoline, lube oil, crop oil, vegetable oil, or animal fat;
• And stores more than 1,320 US gallons in above ground containers which are 55 Gallons and larger; (above
this volume/total site capacity you’re required to have secondary containment for all storage tanks over 55
gallons.)
IF I NEED A PLAN, WHAT SHOULD I DO?
• There are multiple options for plans that are specific to your farming operation. To determine the best suited
for you visit http://www.epa.gov/oilspill/ or contact an Environmental Engineer to assist you in preparing or
advising you on the plan that meets your needs.
WHEN SHOULD I PREPARE AND IMPLEMENT A PLAN?
• Farms in operation on or before August 15, 2002, must have a amended plan in place. Any farm that started
operation after August 16, 2002 must prepare and use a plan on or before May 10, 2013
