From the second highest capital in the world
to Amazonian jungles to the world-renowned
Galapagos Islands, Ecuador is a South
American jewel of cultural, topographical
and ecological diversity.
Learning-intensive activities
may include:
ECONOMICS Visit large fruit plantations and
microenterprises and see how each contributes
to local economies. Experience large indigenous
markets and study the impact of artisan products
on the tourism industry.
EDUCATION Visit private and public schools
as well as bilingual schools that teach in both
Spanish and the indigenous Quecha language.
FAMILY You will learn firsthand the cultural
importance of family and food as you stay in host
homes in the modern capital city of Quito, as
well as with indigenous families whose roots are
traced back to the great Inca civilization.
GOVERNMENT Learn about developing
political influences and structures as we visit
the national parliament and talk with political
leaders from traditional and tribal parties.
RELIGION Serving as the backdrop for the
critically acclaimed movie End of the Spear,
Ecuador has a very unique place in the history
of bringing Christianity to unreached peoples
of the world. Learn about and work alongside
ministry organizations that continue to spread
the gospel in this country. Discover the historic
role of the Catholic Church in Ecuador as well as
the influences of tribal culture on the practice of
religion and faith in daily lives.
