• The part of the story,
usually near the
beginning, in which the
characters are introduced,
the background is
explained, and the setting
is described.
 The central part of the
story during which
various problems arise
after a conflict is
introduced.
 The main problem, or
turning point, between
two opposing forces in a
story, usually the
protagonist vs. the
antagonist.
 The high point in the
action of a story.
 The action and dialogue
following the climax that
leads the reader into the
story’s end.
 The part of the story in
which the problems are
solved and the action
comes to a satisfying
end.
 Look at the color of the paper on your desk. This color will determine the group
that you will be in.
 The yellow group will meet in the area by Mrs. Chew’s desk.
 The green group will meet in the back of the room.
 The blue group will meet in the front of the room.
 Once in your groups, I will bring a picture to each group, and based on the
action occurring in the picture, your goal is to create your own mini story
containing each element of the plot.
 Be sure to include setting, rising action, climax, falling action, and
resolution.
 By looking at the picture, you will already have a clear idea of the setting and
what the main conflict is. It is up to each group to fill in the missing pieces and
“tell the story.”
 These stories can be short (a paragraph or two) as long as you have included
each element. You will have about 10-15 minutes to create your story, and then
we will share each story with the rest of the class.
 Once in your group, assign one person to be the recorder, another to be the
presenter, and others will be idea generators.
