Miss Tséch’ízhí, Little Miss Tséch’ízhí and Brave Pageant
RULES AND REGULATIONS
Criteria: Contestant Must:
 Be respectfull and have good manners.
 Always conduct herself or himself as a young lady and man (while
representing RRCS and the community).
 Be bilingual student and be able to speak both Navajo and English.
 Maintain a C or better grade average.
 Be in K-11th grade at Rough Rock Community School.
 Abide by all School Rules, Regulations and the RRCS Student Handbook.
 Have her and his own sponsor (must be a RRCS Employer and if selected,
sponsor must chaperone to all public appearance).
 Be responsible for Public Relations dealing with local Indian Clubs, Youth
Activities, Conferences, (may attend as many functions outside the school as
arranged by the Sponsor and as chaperoned). Written invitations and scheduled
of events that you will be attending will be filed with the sponsors.
 Be physically fit to be able to walk long distance in parades, etc.
 Be responsible for her crown or hat for the brave.
 Be available for any school functions and events.
 Be available at next year’s Traditional Days Event to pass crown to her or his
successor.
Important Note: Should you win, YOUR PRIORITY is to be responsible “Miss
Tséch’ízhí, Little Miss Tséch’ízhí and Brave” therefore, YOU MUST not have an
intimate boy/girlfriend.
RULES:
 To avoid disruption of contestants and confusion for judges, contestants cannot
be late or join after contest begins.
 Each contestant will be judged on modeling of his traditional dress, speech in
Navajo and on Traditional Talent (points will be deducted of the contestant
performs in English).
 Contestant will be called upon only to perform (there will be no extra time
given for changing of dress).
 Any contestant holding other Queen/Princess/Brave title cannot enter the
pageant unless the crown has been given to the next Runner Up. If the
Queen/Princess/Brave should transfer to another school or fails to abide by
school rules or regulations or reported as having a boy/girlfriend, the first
Runner Up shall automatically become the new Princess/Brave to fulfill the
duties of Miss Tséch’ízhí, Little Miss Tséch’ízhí and Brave for the remainder of
the year.
Rough Rock Community School – Traditional Days
Miss Tséch’ízhí, Little Miss Tséch’ízhí and Brave Pageant
Contestant will be judged in the following areas:
Modeling Traditional Dress: (3 minutes)
 Contestant must wear Navajo traditional attire and fix her/his hair in traditional
style. Sponsor present and describe contestant’s traditional dress (Contestant can
have background music while modeling dress).
Speech: (3 – 5 minutes)
 Contestant must speak in Navajo (point will be deducted if contestant performs
in English). Must include introduction of clans, home location, and her/his
platform should she/he win the title (what are your plans or goals to present
Rough Rock Community School)?
 Impromptu speech: Contestant will draw a question and answer that question on
a topic in Navajo.
Traditional Talent: (3 – 5 minutes)
 Talent must be related to the Navajo culture, i.e., weaving, basket making,
pottery, singing, dancing, storytelling, etc.
