Ladies' Luncheon (meet at Clubhouse)

PRESIDENT'S
MESSAGE
All of our snowbirds are
gone. Many of our year round residents are on vacation. In spite of
the low population, July has been
a very busy month for your Board.
It started when our Manager, Tom Russo, advised
me he had purchased a business in St Augustine
and was resigning effective July 13 at the latest.
Being very decisive I immediately assigned our
Vice President, Doris Brennan, to head the search
for candidates to fill the office of Community Association Manager.
Doris jumped right on the task, organized
her thinking, utilized a job description, and proceeded to advertise for applicants. In short order
years, and we're fortunate to be associated with
her. She says we should put out "minutes" and not
"hours". In her experience, anything extraneous
will definitely come back to bite you. I have attended three of her continuing education classes, and in
each of them, she has made a point of stressing
this.
So, if you want to know what folks are saying in the heat of a discussion, what individuals
have to say, etc. please plan on attending the
meetings in person. Meeting agendas are posted
in the Clubhouse and on individual building bulletin
boards at least 48 hours in advance. Further, Suzi
Robinette posts notices of meetings on channel 43.
Glenn Meyer,
Secretary
we had a significant number apply and the list was
whittled down to three candidates. Fortunately
there were still four board members in residence to
do the interviews—Glenn Meyer, Michael Kaye,
myself, headed by Doris Brennan. The interviews
were conducted over a three hour period on July
11. Out of the three interviewees the choice was
unanimous that Todd was the best candidate and
we should offer the position to Todd Harper. Todd
accepted after consulting with his wife and started
in the office July 18. Now obviously the office of
Community Association Manager was vacant in the
interim so your board had to take care of daily
management during that period. Your board however is a good group, always willing to pitch in, and
the gap was bridged without incident.
Meanwhile the summer activities did not
slow down. The pool resurfacing project started July 18 and as of this writing is on schedule. As with
many projects, there are a few things to iron out but
your board will handle it and I’m sure everyone will
be delighted with the outcome.

A View from the Bridge
While things are rather
slow here during the summer
months Larry Bryant, Fleet Captain, did not let things slide. He
organized not one but two BoatA-Cades. The first was to
Spoto's restaurant on June 30
and the second was to Shrimper's on July 13. Both
were well attended. He has advised me that he is
busy scheduling another one for the month of August.
Not only is Commodore George Hohenstein
and his wife Toby MIA but Mary and I will also be
MIA until this fall while we enjoy the cool breezes in
the mountains of North Carolina.
Until then we wish all of you a great summer... less green slime on our waters and no hurricanes!!!
Best regards,
Dennis Stewart
Vice Commodore, CBY&SC
FROM THE SECRETARY'S DESK
At times I have heard and received comment that the Board of Directors meeting minutes
are too short, look like a rehash of the agenda,
don’t reflect the tone of the meeting, don't reflect
what people had to say, etc.
First off, the Florida statutes require only
that the minutes show what was done: what motions were made and passed (or rejected); who
made and second the motions; how each board
member voted; what reports were given, etc.
The statutes further require that any item
acted upon be reflected in the posted agenda except in an emergency. The intent being that interested parties will know in advance what the Board
intends to deal with.
Board meeting minutes can become, in effect, legal documents in the event of a dispute.
Anything in the minutes could and likely would be
used against the association should a question
arise. If an action is brought against the association, we will all bear the brunt of the cost. It is my
understanding that in the past, we actually had an
assessment to cover legal costs.

Social Activi
Activities
Friday night happy hour is
still being held. Usually there's a
small group of four to six people,
however word is out that only one
person showed up on July 22nd.

There was a total of eight on hand on the 29th.
You know the drill—byob and something to
share. If it's too hot on the deck, the group will
move into the Clubhouse.
The monthly ladies' luncheon at Shucker's
was well attended considering the time of year.
August 11th will find the group heading out to
Pietro's on the Ocean. If you plan to attend, please
call Lee Weeks (772-631-4236).
to share your time honored or newly enjoyed recipes with your community and beyond.
It will make excellent Christmas gifts. Imagine the delight of family and friends receiving the
cookbook with your recipes inside and, if you
choose, possibly your picture. It’s a timeless gift

Neighborhood Watch
We didn't have good participation from Building 12 this month
and I tried to find some time to help
them out.
Building 13 will be responsible for Neighborhood Watch for the month of August. This is another building with few possible
volunteers. If you have a spare evening or two and
can help, it would be greatly appreciated.
Vince Meyer
The Welcoming Committee announced no
sales or new annual leases for the month of June.
There was, however, two annual lease renewals—
Malcom Grover (2-205) and James A. Mayer (14101).
Also, William and Sharon Cameron inherited William's mother, Beverly Cameron's condo.
