The Richland Elementary
talent show has passed.
Did you go? This show
was the 2nd of its kind
with acts such as dancing,
singing, playing the piano
and so much more!
There were two different
sections. The first section
contained, Kindergarten,
First, Second, and Third
Grade. The second section
contained, Fourth, Fifth,
and Sixth Grade.
In the first section the
first place winner was
Taylor
Nagle,
who
performed a hula hoop
routine. The second place
winner was Tyler Korzi.
The third place winner
was
Xael
Virgilio
.
In the second section,
the first place winner was
Amilia Pawlowski, who
wowed us with a piano
solo. The second place
winner
was
Cassidy
Dusack,
and the third
place winner was Camryn
Beglin.
Congratulations to the
winners and everyone
who participated! They
made the show an
amazing one!
In March, 1976, Steve
Wozniak went to his computer
club and introduced the Apple I.
The Apple I amused the crowd.
Everyone wanted to have one.
The Apple I wasn’t even
close to today’s computers. It
didn’t come with a screen,
covering, and not even a
keyboard! Buyers had to add
these parts. Buyers also had to
know a computer’s language to
use it. The computer language
sounded very ancient.
In 1977, the Apple II came
out. It sold millions!
Without this old technology,
we wouldn’t have our high-tech
phones, tablets, and technology.
Thank you Steve Wozniak &
Steve Jobs!

Meet one of the
most famous soldiers
of World War 1
D.H.: What grade do you teach?
Ms. V: 4th Grade
D.H.: How long have you
been a teacher?
Ms. V: This is my first year at
Richland but I also taught
in New York City for 5
years.
Have you ever met this dog
before? Do you even know who
this dog is? Well if you don’t that is
ok, but this dog is kind of a legend.
His name is Stubby, and he is a
terrier dog. He was also a soldier
in World War I. He is amazing if
you know what I mean. This
fabulous dog sniffed out poisonous
gas and he saved many lives from
his amazing ability of smell. He
also captured a dangerous German
spy, isn’t that cool or what?!
Stubby even met with
presidents, and he got awarded
medals for his amazing actions.
Stubby also made headlines across
America, but unfortunately Stubby
died in 1926.
Stubby
was
a
brave,
courageous terrier who should
always be praised for his good
deeds he did.
Did you know…
In World War I dogs were
sent to battle zones to deliver
messages to the soldiers. They
also performed guard duty and
comforted injured soldiers.
D.H.: Where did you go to
high school? College?
Ms. V: I was a student here, at
Richland and then went to
The University of Pittsburgh
and Mercy College.
D.H.: What did you like most
about living in New York
City? What was your
least favorite part?
Ms. V: I loved meeting people
from all over the world and
getting to try foods from all
over, too! I disliked the
traffic, as well as the rats
and mice that would always
scurry through the streets
and subways!
D.H.: What made you decide
to move back to Johnstown
after living in New York for
9 years?
Ms. V: My heart was always in
Richland and I knew I
wanted to come home to be
close to my family. When I
had my son, Xael and my
daughter, Nayeli, I felt that
“The Big Apple” was too big
for my two little kids.
Thank you, Ms. Virgilio, for
taking time for us to get to know
you! Who will be our next
Feature Teacher?
Animal Fun Facts
1. . Studies have found the giraffe has an extremely high blood pressure that is
twice that found in other animals. This study is the first to unravel the true nature
of the giraffe heart and cardiovascular system.
2. Blobfish can cope with the high pressure of water because their flesh is very
much like jelly which helps them with buoyancy. They eat crustaceans such as
crabs, lobsters and pretty much anything that wanders past their mouth. On
average, the Blobfish lives to be about 130 years old.
buoyancy = the power to float or rise in a fluid; relative lightness.
cardiovascular = of or relating to the heart and blood vessels
