Sun Safety
Now that the warmer weather has arrived please refer to the following sun safety
guidance.
Sun Cream
We advise parents to apply high factor sun cream generously before children come
to school. Parents are welcome to come into school, or to send a named
representative, to apply cream for children at midday. Children who can apply the
cream themselves are allowed to bring sun cream to school. Please note that staff
are not allowed to apply sun cream for children.
Hats
We encourage the wearing of hats, especially those which provide protection for
the neck. Children will be reminded to wear their hats by staff.
Sunglasses
We encourage children to wear 100% UV Protective sunglasses.
Cover
Children are welcome to bring to school, in their PE bag, a light long-sleeved shirt,
which can be worn while playing to protect their arms and shoulders.
Please note that all sun safety items should be clearly labelled with your child’s
name.
Lower Stage
On Tuesday afternoon, the Year 1 children and staff had a lovely walk around the
local area, observing and discussing human and physical features in the
environment! The children saw a variety of plants, linking to our work in science this
half term. In maths this week we've been learning to tell the time to o'clock and half
past whilst solving time-related problems!
In Early Years the children have been exploring words that rhyme, writing rhyming
strings and simple poems about pets and also listening to a range of fun and exciting
poetry. In mathematics we have been doubling farm animals to find out how many
we would then have on the farm for the farmer.
A polite reminder that our EYFS school trip is on Tuesday 10th May to West Lodge
Rural Centre please remember to: send your child in suitable footwear and
trousers wearing our school jumper, with a waterproof jacket and also to have a
name carrier bag with their lunch in so it can be thrown away once finished. Thank
you.

Middle Stage
This week, the children in Year 3 have started learning a new persuasive text in
English called ‘Paradise Island’. They have spent time listening to, mapping and
retelling the text and have thoroughly enjoyed playing Tell Me More which
encourages the children to add more information. If you have time, it would be really
beneficial for the children to practise retelling the text and playing Tell Me More at
home. Some examples of words and phrases that the children could add in are
adjectives, adverbs, similes and rhetorical questions or additional details about the
hotel, beach, rainforest and holiday activities. Next week, the children will be learning
about conjunctions, prepositions and paragraphs in preparation for planning and
writing their own persuasive texts the following week.
Upper Stage
Year 4 have been lucky enough to have been given the amazing opportunity to take
part in a 10 week Ukulele course thanks to NMPAT Music Trust who provide our
school with the peripatetic teachers for our variety of music lessons. We have learnt
the C chord which we used in the song ‘Row, Row, Row Your Boat’ – even making
our own versions up - and now we have learnt the F chord which we will put into
place next week when we learn a new song ‘Froggie Goes A Courting’. The children
have behaved really well and shown many of the Values our school adheres to. They
are having a lot of fun strumming away every week. Ask them to show you their
super warm up song too! We will keep you posted as to their fabulous progress.
