What a great community we live in full of individuals and organizations that are selflessly committed to making a difference — whether searching for a cure for childhood cancer, helping young girls gain self-confidence and great health through running, making it possible for musicians at every level to create and play incredible music, or making sure that those who are the least among us are provided equal access to justice. We continue to be amazed and inspired by all the people working tirelessly to make positive changes. This year we again want to share with you the impact these individuals and organizations are making in our community and how they have reminded us of the importance of creating a ripple. All of us at Gjording Fouser would like to wish you a wonderful new year filled with both giving and receiving countless tiny ripples! Sincerely, Jack S. GOTR is much more than a running program. It is a positive youth development program that follows a set curriculum that has been tested and proven to “statistically improve girls’ self-esteem and body image.” The program culminates with the girls being physically and emotionally prepared to complete a celebratory 5K running event. You can learn more about GOTR and how to get involved at gotr.org. 713 Number of Treasure Valley girls who participated in GOTR in 2014 $26,000 Approximate amount of money needed to fund scholarships in 2014 May 2, 2015 Date of the GOTR Community 5K in Boise, ID GF’S TINY RIPPLE... 22: Number of supply boxes that GF assembled for coaches to use throughout the season 5: Number of scholarships provided by GF ST. In addition, an impressive array of opportunities are provided for junior and senior high students. ACCESS TO JUSTICE IDAHO CAMPAIGN The Access to Justice Idaho campaign is an annual effort to raise funds to provide support for the three principal providers of free civil legal services for poor and vulnerable Idahoans. There is an urgent need for funding for DisAbility Rights Idaho (DRI), Idaho Legal Aid Services (ILAS), and Idaho Volunteer Lawyers Program (IVLP), which have seen drastic cuts in their funding sources at a time when demand for legal services is at an all-time high. A contribution to Access to Justice Idaho will ensure these Idaho legal organizations continue to serve the people without resources and people with disabilities throughout Idaho in cases such as domestic violence, foreclosure prevention, disability claims, access for long-term care, guardianships, and other legal services that would otherwise be out of reach. You can learn more about the campaign and how to get involved at isb.idaho.gov. 38 out of 50 Idaho has 0.71 legal aid attorneys per 10,000 people in poverty, the 38th worst ratio among the 50 states (Source: Justice Index) $180,000 Approximate amount raised in the 2014 campaign 775,000 The number of Idahoans who face civil legal difficulties and do not have the resources to seek the help of an attorney (Source: 2013 University of Idaho study) GF’S TINY RIPPLE... 175: Number of beers sold at a Kegs 4 Kause fundraising event hosted by GF at Payette Brewing Co. BTF is a movement of moms, dads, kids, aunts, uncles, grandparents, friends, colleagues, neighbors and businesses who believe that we have the power to cure childhood cancer. BTF partners exclusively with the Ben Towne Center for Childhood Cancer Research (BTCCCR) at Seattle Children’s Research Institute, where 100% of all contributions are invested.
