In this magazine, we are going to talk about the different systems our body is made up and ways to maintain them in good and healthy conditions. The integumentary system consists of the organ systems that compose the skin, hair, nails, and exocrine glands. Skin is not that thick but yet it is our body´s largest organ. Skin acts as a barrier to our body protecting us against physical damage, UV light, pathogens and serves to hold in the water in our body. The skin consists of a 3-‐layer tissue: epidermis, dermis, and hypodermis. Tendons, ligaments, and cartilage are an essential part of our skeletal system that helps us move our body around. The main purpose of the bones in our body is to provide us support and shape and also to protect our internal organs from being injured. Our muscles work with the help of our nervous system. The main functions of our muscular system are: excitability, extensibility, contractibility, and elasticity. Doing exercise helps your body in many different ways. Those ways are that it maintains your body healthy, strong and with energy. The Osteoarthritis and osteoporosis are among the most common ailments of the skeletal system. Different types of exercises involve different elements of physical fitness. It has to be a balanced workout that include different types of exercises to help you avoid injury and develop or maintain overall physical fitness. The different types of exercises can help you burn calories and increase flexibility. • Aerobics: Aerobic exercise includes performing continuous movements with huge muscle groups, such as your legs, for 20 minutes or more. Cycling, swimming, rowing, walking or jogging are forms of aerobic exercise” • Flexibility: Flexibility exercise enhances the range of motion of your muscle and joint movements. Stretching and many yoga poses are forms of flexibility exercise. Flexibility exercises are particularly beneficial after anaerobic exercise.” Making Yoga will help your skeletal system relax. • Stability: Stability exercise improves your ability to maintain body alignment while resisting unwanted bone and joint movements.” An example of stability exercise can be balance the body, it is recommended to make 10 minutes of stability in your routine. Making these kind of exercises would help your skeletal system be stronger and healthier. You may take advantages of this because their benefits are for your health and can make you feel better during the rest of the day. Page 3 Skin care in adolescents Many teenagers have acne problems on their skin. Even though they may take medication and other products, the marks caused by the acne are still affecting the skin. In this article we would talk about some skin tips to help the teenagers have a healthy skin. FOR GIRLS v v v Be careful on choosing cosmetics: because sometimes the skin can react to different chemicals on them. Make sure the brushes are clean every time you use them. Always clean your face before going to bed and take off the entire make up whenever you have it. Make sure to have a dermatologist that can help you to every problem and can recommend you some skin products. FOR BOTH o Don't pick your face: If you pick, squeeze, or pinch blemishes, you could have scars in your skin. Also don’t rub or alter pimples. o Make sure you protect your skin with sunscreen so the UV rays don’t damage it and leave brown spots of your skin. o Be careful when shaving, you can cut your skin. Make sure to buy good razors and choose the ones that your skin is most able to resist by their sharp edges. It is essential to always take care of our skin, so that over time our face is spotless and without any acne marks from our puberty. Attend a dermatologist at least once a month so you can get facials and humectations to help maintain your skin in good conditions. Page 4 Did you know... Andreas Vesalius resurrected the practice of human dissection even though the Catholic Church banned it. He discovered that men and woman had the same amount of ribs cutting out the corpses and analyzing the inside. It is important now days because specialized doctors are able to know the skeletal system and the arrangement of the bones inside us. He wrote a textbook on human anatomy called De Humani Corporis Fabrica. The book showed all the muscular system in the human body. Paracelsus was the first man to state that what makes a man ill also cures him. Thanks to that achievement, medicines exist, he discovered to use poison to cure some kinds of illness. He´s also known for discovering ‘laudanum’ which is an alcoholic herbal preparation. This helps now days as a narcotic painkiller; it helps people suffer less when they have some sort of illness. He named the element ZINC in the periodic table, in which he found al zinc materials are pointer, this helps our society now a days because ZINC is a very important element because large quantities of zinc are used to produce die-castings which are important in the automobile, electrical and hardware industries. Anton Van Leuwenhoek started as an apprentice in a dry goods store where magnifying glasses were used to count the threads in cloth, now he is considered the father of microscopy, his microscopes change the way people saw biology, seeing that there were many living things that the naked eye could not see. He did not invent the microscope, he only improved it and by doing that he change how we saw ourselves and the world that surrounds us. He was the first person to see single cell microscopic organisms, he was the one who discovered bacteria, parasitic microscopic protist, blood cells, sperm cells, egg cells and blood cells.
