Connecting Streaming Media Devices or Game Consoles to the CMU Network 1. When connecting streaming media devices or game consoles to the CMU network, don’t try to connect them wirelessly. Instead, connect them to the wired network with an Ethernet cable. 2. Acquire an Ethernet cable. This cable can be purchased in the book store located on the campus as well as in stores such as Office Depot, Office Max, Walmart, Target, Kmart, and Best Buy. Plug this cable into your dorm room Ethernet jack and into your game console. Power on your device. 3. Using a computer or mobile device that is connected to the CMU WiFi network or the CMU Ethernet network, go to https://pcreg.coloradomesa.edu. Use your MAVzone credentials to login. Students who do not know their MAVzone login should call the Help Desk at (970)248-2111 or visit the Help Desk in the Library. 4. After logging in you will be brought to the device registration page. Click the link that reads, find your gaming console address. http://www.coloradomesa.edu/informationtechnology/Locating a Device Hardware Address.pdf CMU Help Desk: 970-248-2111 or http://whd.coloradomesa.edu Page 1 Connecting Streaming Media Devices or Game Consoles to the CMU Network 5. Locate your device and follow the steps to identify your device’s hardware address. This is also sometimes called the MAC (Media Access Control) address, or Ethernet address. Perform these steps on your device. Write down this address. The address is a series of six, two digit letter and/or number combinations, separated by a hyphen or colon. For ex: A1:B2:CC:D4:EE:A3 6. With your device’s hardware address in hand, use a separate device that is connected to the CMU WiFi network or the CMU Ethernet network, and go to https://pcreg.coloradomesa.edu. Use your MAVzone credentials to login. After logging in you will be brought to the device registration page. DO NOT MAKE ANY CHANGES ON THIS SCREEN. Click the NEW link. This will give you a new, blank registration screen. Enter the hardware address you obtained from your device into the field labeled ETHERNET ADDRESS. Enter the Description and Location fields as suggested. Click the Save button. NOTE: When entering the Ethernet address, DO NOT use hyphens, only use colons to separate the pairs of characters. 7. Unplug the Ethernet cable from you device and leave it unplugged for 15 seconds. Plug the Ethernet cable back in and your device will now be connected to the Internet.
