Sermon Title: He knows WARM UP 1. Talk about something that you wanted to buy and how much research you did in order to make the decision whether to buy it or not. 2. After all the time and efforts you spent doing all the research, did you become more aware of the presence of this product around you? How will you relate this with your relationship with God? WORD “remember the former things of old; for I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me, declaring the end from the beginning and from ancient times things not yet done, saying, ‘My counsel shall stand, and I will accomplish all my purpose,” Isaiah 46:9-10 ESV 1) As we learn more about God and grow in our relationship with him, we will recognize more of his fingerprints and involvement in our lives. 2) One of the most important things we need to LEARN about God is His OMNISCIENCE - He knows everything. # 1: He knows us better than we know ourselves 1) Sometimes we think we know ourselves well, but actually we don’t. God knows better. “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it?” (Jeremiah 17:9 ESV) “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” (Isaiah 55:8-9 ESV) 2) God knows us intimately. The creator knows clearly the purpose of His creation. He knows why we are here and when and how we will achieve our purpose. “Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. But even the hairs of your head are all numbered.” (Matthew 10:29-30 ESV) Isaiah 46:10 (above) “The heart of man plans his way, but the LORD establishes his steps.” (Proverbs 16:9 ESV) 3) We learn to trust him as we experience his faithfulness. We need to remember the former things, how he has been faithful in the past and how he is always faithful. To see God's hand in your life, zoom out! We need to look back to look forward. Isaiah 46:9 (above) Examples in the bible about God’s timing Moses : 40 years living as a prince of Egypt, in a rage due to injustice he killed an Egyptian slave master and fled to Midian. He spent 40 years as a shepherd. At the ripe old age of 80, he encountered God in a burning bush, and was told to return to Egypt to bring God’s people out of captivity. He spent another 40 years in the desert and died there. David : David was 15 when anointed by Samuel, 30 when he became King over Judah, and 37 when he became King over all of Israel. During the period of waiting, he was taunted and harassed by Saul. Jesus : 30 years as a regular Jewish citizen. Most of his adult life as a carpenter 4) Our life is not our own. “I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” (Galatians 2:20 ESV) #2: He knows our joys & and our pains 1) God knows pain like we may never know. He sent His own son Jesus to be humiliated, killed and be separated from Him because he loves us “but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8 ESV) 2) Jesus demonstrated his humanity when he asked for the cup to be taken, in spite of his knowledge of the “plan”. But, he also demonstrated the ultimate trust in His father, by declaring his willing obedience. “And going a little farther he fell on his face and prayed, saying, “My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as you will.” … Again, for the second time, he went away and prayed, “My Father, if this cannot pass unless I drink it, your will be done.” (Matthew 26:39-42 ESV) 3) Jesus (in His human nature) has been tempted in every respect. “For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin.” (Hebrews 4:15 ESV) 4) God knows your limits. “No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.” (1 Corinthians 10:13 ESV) Conclusion God knows everything, in our past, present and future. He knows all the details of our body, our hearts and our lives. He knows the small and big things. Just because he knows something, it doesn’t mean he caused it. Our actions and other’s actions play a large part in what happens to us. As we submit our lives to him, we can trust that we are living according to his purposes. If we are not submitted to him, it is likely that we are not living according to His purposes. As we grow in our knowledge and experience of Him, His omniscience, coupled with His love, His grace, His mercy, His power, we will experience an immeasurable peace because whatever happens to us, the good, the bad and ugly has not happened by chance or without His knowledge. APPLICATION 1) Do you know God enough to trust him enough? 2) What situations in the past have you experienced that make you remember how much God knows you and how faithful He is? 3) What situation(s) are you currently facing that you need to lift to God and trust Him with? What aspects of your life need a breakthrough? PRAYER 1) Thank God for His great love and faithfulness. 2) Declare that God has given you a great purpose and victorious destiny, according to His will and His timing, and thank Him for your past, present and future. 3) Lift to God all the current situations that you are struggling with and ask for His grace and power to help you fully trust Him and obey Him for He knows everything.
