Time line of reproduction CUT THESE OUT
An egg cell is released from the ovaries,
this is called ovulation.
The penis
becomes full of blood and erect
The egg cell travels down the
fallopian tube to reach the lining of
the uterus
Sperm is produced in the testicles
The penis is stimulated and sperm
travels up to the sperm duct to reach
the urethra
1 sperm and 1 egg cell fuse
Sperm cells are ejaculated from
the penis.
Fertilisation has occurred.
Sperm cells “swim” up the vagina to
the oviduct to meet the egg cell.
The egg then moves into the lining of
the uterus.
The embryo is now attached to the
uterus wall by a placenta.
At 6 weeks the embryo is now
called foetus.
The foetus gets its nutrients via the
umbilical cord.
The foetus continues to grow in the
womb.
After 9 months (40 weeks) The
mother goes into labour.
The waters break, the cervix dilates
and the mother’s uterus contracts to
help push the baby out.
The mother will try to breast feed the
baby to ensure it gets essential
nutrients and antibodies.
At 12 months the baby becomes a
toddler.
From 3 years old the toddler
becomes a child.
Between the ages of 10 and 15 the child
reaches puberty.
In males the changes are:
1. Voice deepening.
The chemical that control puberty
are called the sex hormones.
In males the changes are:
2. Shoulders getting wider
In males puberty starts at about 12
years old.
In males the changes are:
3. Testes and penis get larger and
begin to produce sperm.
Changes that occur in males and females In females puberty starts at about
are:
10 years old.
Pubic hair and under arm hair grows.
In females changes are:
2. Ovaries start to release eggs, and
periods starts
In females changes are:
3. The hips get wider.
In females the changes are:
1. Breasts develop
A female begins to produce eggs and
begins menstruation or ‘having her
period’
A female has period every 28days
During the monthly cycle the lining
of the uterus builds up.
During the monthly cycle an egg is
released at about day 14.
At the end of the monthly cycle if the
egg is not fertilised the lining of the
uterus breaks away, this is called
menstruation.
