Green Class – Spring 1
In literacy we will be looking at:
Sentence structure. Focusing on the features of a sentence: capital,
letter, finger spaces and a full stop and the importnace of checking our
sentence…Does it make sense?
Reading focus:
 Recognising initial sounds in words
 Can segment the sounds in simple words and blend them together
and knows which letters represent some of them.
 Links sounds to letters, naming and sounding the letters of the
alphabet.
 Listens to and joins in with stories and poems, one-to-one and also
in small groups.
 Shows interest in illustrations and print in books and print in the
environment.
 Link sounds to letters
 Begins to read words and simple sentences.
Writing focus:
 Correct letter formation .
 Beginning to write labels and captions in meaningful contexts.
 Begins to break the flow of speech into words.
 Learning to segment the sounds in simple words and blend them.
 Writing first and second name in lowercase letters with capital
letter at beginning of each name.
 Links sounds to letters, naming and sounding the letters of the
alphabet.
 When writing using features of a sentence; capital letter, finger
spaces and a full stop.

In maths we are looking at:
Number
 Counting actions or objects which cannot be moved.
 Counting reliably with numbers from 1 to 20
 Counting an irregular arrangement of up to ten objects/symbols
 Use the language of ‘more’ and ‘fewer’ to compare two sets of
objects.
 Says the number that is one more and one less than a given
number.
 In practical activities and discussion, is beginning to use the
vocabulary involved in adding and subtracting.
 Matching numeral and quantity correctly.
 Comparing two groups of objects, saying when they have the
same number.
 Looking at number problems.
 Separating a group of three or four objects in different ways,
 Representing numbers.
Shape, Space and Measure
 Orders two or three items by length or height.
 Explores characteristics of everyday objects and shapes and uses
mathematical language to describe them.
 Beginning to use mathematical names for ‘solid’ 3D shapes and ‘flat’
2D shapes, and mathematical terms to describe shapes.
 Selects a particular named shape.
 Uses familiar objects and common shapes to create and recreate
patterns and build models.
 Orders two items by length or height.
 Orders two items by weight or capacity.
 Orders and sequences familiar events.
 Measures short periods of time in simple ways.
 Uses positional language.
Our IPC topic is:
Transport
In this unit the children are going to be learning about all kinds of
transport and different ways to travel and get around.
 Finding out about different kinds of transport and what it is used
for.
 Making boats and learning about floating and sinking.
 Investigating emergency transport from fire engines to
firefighter air craft.
 Role playing.
 Building and creating.
 What jobs do different transport provide.
ICT
 learn how to log onto computer and laptops independently
 learn how to use keyboard and mouse.
 Use simple programmes and applications on computers and ipads.

 Looking at Christian beliefs and practices.
Music- Charanga
 Listening and responding to different style of music.
 Embedding foundations of the interrelated dimensions of music
 Learning to sing or sing along with nursery rhymes and action songs
 Improvising leading to playing classroom instruments
 Singing and learning to play instruments within a song
 Share and perform the learning that has taken place
PE (with Mr King and Miss Knowles ) Multi skills and Karate
 Negotiate space successfully when playing racing and chasing
