Impact Capitalism Atlanta Making Money In Sustainability & Social Change KEYNOTE Stephen Viederman, Former President, Jessie Smith Noyes Foundation Stephen Viederman is a former President of the Jessie Smith Noyes Foundation, a pioneer in impact investing. Mr. Viederman's writing, speaking and advocacy cover a wide range of issues that include: redefining the fiduciary duty of foundations and other institutional investors, recognizing the obligations and rights of being a shareowner in today’s world; economic and environmental justice including community-driven community development; the limits of corporate responsibility; the role of philanthropy in democracy; science, higher education and public policy; and issues surrounding the conceptualization and practice of “sustainability.” A native New Yorker, Mr. Viederman received his BA and MA in history from Columbia University in the mid-fifties. He lives in New York with his wife of 51 years, a social worker. His grandchildren live in Amherst, Massachusetts and London, England. He is a photographer and serious cook, a beginning student of Australian Aboriginal Art and history. PANEL 1 Dennis Belcher, Partner, McGuireWoods Mr. Belcher routinely represents high-net worth individuals, families and family offices on a variety of sensitive and complex estate and business planning matters. He also focuses his practice on estate and trust administration, charitable planning, and sensitive fiduciary litigation and dispute resolution. Mr. Belcher is past president of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel and was previously chair of the American Bar Association's Real Property, Trust & Estate Law Section. Genia Topple Cacye, Consultant, Rockdale Foundation Genia Topple Cayce managed the philanthropic arm of Gray Ghost Ventures where she served as Program Director of Gray Matters Capital, a private operating foundation, as well as the Executive Director of the Rockdale Foundation, a grant-making foundation. Genia oversaw the foundations' investments in education and other mission-related activities in India. She joined the Rockdale Foundation in 2003 as Program Officer for Microfinance and spearheaded the Foundation’s activities in the Middle East. Prior to joining Rockdale, Genia was an analyst with Glover Capital where she specialized in mergers and acquisitions. An active member of Atlanta’s civic community, Genia currently sits on the boards of the Decatur Preservation Alliance and the Decatur Education Foundation. Genia is a graduate of the Thunderbird School of Global Management and she completed her undergraduate studies in history at Furman University. King McGlaughon, CEO, Foundation Source Prior to Foundation Source, Mr. McGlaughon most recently served as chief philanthropic officer for Wells Fargo Philanthropic Services and as managing executive of Wachovia’s Nonprofit and Philanthropic Services Group. Previously, he served as first vice president and director in Merrill Lynch’s Wealth Management Services group and as director of the Merrill Lynch Center for Philanthropy and Nonprofit Management. In addition to his roles in the private wealth sector, King served as the provost and dean at The American College in Bryn Mawr, PA, where he also held The Sallie B. and William B. Wallace Chair in Philanthropy in the school’s graduate division. Mr. McGlaughon is a graduate of The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he was a Morehead Scholar, and the University of North Carolina School of Law. He has presented and participated in panel discussions at leading conferences, including SALT, SoCap, Play Big, Take Action! and SRI in the Rockies. Most recently, he was a contributor to “A New Foundation for Portfolio Management”, published by RSF Social Finance and Portfolio 21 which challenges conventional assumptions around risk, growth and capital utility, and suggests a radical new approach to Modern Portfolio Theory. Matthew is a founding partner at The CAPROCK Group – a global family wealth management firm with offices in Seattle, Silicon Valley and Boise, and led his firm’s successful effort to become a founding B Corp in 2007. Sam Moss, President, Impact Advisory Services Sam works with foundations and organizations on a broad range of projects, frequently around impact investment and social enterprise. At Gray Ghost Ventures, a $200 million Family Office based in Atlanta, Sam was a member of the senior team investing in microfinance and in early stage enterprises in the developing world focused on underserved populations. He also served as Board President of Gray Matters Capital, a related operating foundation, which structured a $10 million mission related investment portfolio and initiated and collaborated on projects in microfinance education, affordable private schools in India and promoting awareness of impact investing. He spent more than 20 years at Wachovia Bank and held executive positions in International and Corporate Banking, Capital Markets and Wealth Management. Sam is a graduate of Williams College. Shawn Lesser, Co-Founder & Partner, Watershed Capital Group Shawn has over sixteen years experience in international equity sales with a focus on Europe. Shawn is formally the CoHead and Managing Director of the international equity teams at Morgan Keegan and at NDB Deutsche Bank. PANEL 2 Adam Seitchik, Head of Research, Highwater Global Adam Seitchik, Ph.D., CFA, Head of Research for the Highwater Global sustainable global public equity investment strategy. Adam has been involved in the investment business since 1990. He is Executive Director of The Sustainable Investment Research Center LLC (SIRC). Previously Adam was Managing Director at Auriel Capital where he was responsible for identifying industry-level ESG factors influencing corporate financial performance. Adam's career in sustainable investing began at Trillium Asset Management in Boston, where he was the Chief Investment Officer and CoCEO, overseeing $1 billion in investment portfolios integrating ESG and financial factors into a value-added stock selection process. The author of Climate Change from the Investor’s Perspective (for the Civil Society Institute), Adam is a frequent writer and speaker on sustainable investing. He is a trustee of the Hyams Foundation in Boston and serves as chair of the Investment and Finance Committee. Adam is also on the Board of Bainbridge Graduate Institute, a pioneer and leader in sustainable business education. Adam holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Boston University and is a Chartered Financial Analyst. He is responsible for leading the company's investment operations and strategy since MicroVest’s founding in 2003. As MicroVest's CEO, he led the launch of MicroVest I, LP, the first commercial private equity vehicle focused on microfinance in North America. Mr. Crawford has 25 years experience with microfinance institutions and capital markets across the globe. Before helping to found MicroVest Capital Management, Mr. Crawford worked for the Latin American Financial Markets Division at the International Finance Corporation (IFC), and focused on investments in microfinance institutions. Prior to joining IFC, Mr. Crawford created and ran Seed Capital Development Fund, a US based non‐profit firm, involved in creating financial instruments and attracting funds to capitalize microfinance institutions, primarily in Latin America, Asia and Africa. Mr. Crawford serves on the Steering Committee for the Agriculture Finance Support Facility, a World Bank initiative supported by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Jamie Horwitz, Senior Vice President, Community Capital Management Jamie Horwitz is a Senior Vice President at Community Capital Management responsible for strategic marketing initiatives, media relations, RFPs, marketing compliance, and supporting the firm’s institutional marketing efforts. Jamie previously worked in the Corporate Marketing department at Bear, Stearns & Co. Inc. and as a credit analyst at Chase Manhattan Bank in New York City. She holds a BA in Economics from The University of Michigan. Jamie is on the Board of Directors of PAICR and is also a mentor for Take Stock in Children, a non-profit organization that provides college scholarships for low-income and at-risk students in Florida. Karl Khoury, Co-Founder & Partner, Arborview Capital Karl is a founder of Arborview Capital, co-heads the investment team and co-manages the operations of the firm. Prior to co-founding Arborview Capital, he had twelve years of experience identifying, consummating and managing private equity investments with Columbia Capital, a sector-focused venture capital firm with over $2 billion under management. During that time, he invested in 13 companies with a primary focus on enterprise and communications software, security, and managed IT services. Prior to Columbia Capital, Karl worked at J.P.
