1. How do we increase teen participation?
a. How do you hear about library events for teens?
i. Word of Mouth- friends
ii. Email list
iii. Parents- see info on Facebook
b. Social Media
i. Teens don’t use Facebook
ii. Suggested Instagram account for library
1. Maybe snapchat
iii. Some teens are restricted in social media use- email best way to inform them of
upcoming events
c. Summer Reading Program
i. Incentives/ prizes
1. Gift cards for itunes, jet/terra cotta
2. Teens would like extra credit from school for registering/ completing
summer reading
2. Community Service Opportunities
a. Melanie will provide list of dates served if needed
b. Help with Summer Reading
i. Kids Activity day on July 28 and STEM Sunday August 7
3. Summer Reading Program
a. Add an adult (teen) coloring event in addition to other scheduled events
b. Teens voted not to do a puppet show at the frozen yogurt kick off event
4. Books/ Materials Selections
a. Rick Riordan’s new series
b. Kurt Vonnegut
c. Audible account for library
i. Booktubers- review and discuss new books
d. Portrait of Photography, the Innocent Have Nothing To Fear; Here Comes the Sun;
Homecoming; I am No One.
e. Discussed materials on “hot topics” that teens might use the library to find information
on- expanding YA non-fiction offerings
i. Teens agreed that they are unlikely to use library materials to find out more
information on topics.
ii. Would use the internet or ask friends
5. Book Club
a. Increase participation
i. Teens agreed that holding book club every other month at Terra Cotta would
increase participation
ii. Suggested reading same book or same author once in a while
iii. June- will meet June 28 at 6pm after Black Out Poetry Event
1. Will meet at Terra Cotta
2. Read “Childhood Favorites”
