Congratulations,
Class of 2016
Valedictorian
Madison Buchholz
Salutatorian
Marissa Campbell
On May 27th, the Class of 2016 and their families gathered at the Riviera Theatre in North
Tonawanda, NY, to celebrate the end of their high school careers and the beginning of the next
chapter in their lives. The theme of the evening was family. Throughout their four years at school,
these students exemplified strength, intelligence, and good citizenship, as well as a strong spiritual
and ethical core. We wished them well as they went to prom, honored their academic achievements
and gave thanks at the Baccalaureate Mass, and celebrated with them on their
graduation night. This fall there will be thirty-seven new students attending college!
Congratulations, Class of 2016!

WELCOME LETTER FROM OUR
NEW PRINCIPAL, DR. CLUCKEY:
It is with profound joy and excitement that I begin my
tenure here at Niagara Catholic. I want to thank the faculty,
staff, students, parents as well as the few alumni I have met so
far for making me feel so welcome. I suppose I should not be
surprised because I have heard so much about the Niagara
Catholic family which is built on a long standing tradition well
supported by its former students. I am honored to be part of this
incredible institution and I pledge to all of you that I will
dedicate myself to continuing to grow this program as we pursue
excellence as a world class academic institution. I also pledge to
work collaboratively with all the stakeholders to ensure each
individual student is guided to their full potential. We will not
only help students perform at the best academic ability but
together we will nurture the development of self-discipline
which is paramount to lifelong success.
As a graduate of Catholic education from grammar
school to graduate school and as an alumni parent of my two
children who attended Catholic schools, I am keenly aware of
the extraordinary and unique role Catholic education plays in
transforming boys and girls into strong, well mannered, morally
and ethically responsible young men and women. Through all
our collective efforts, Niagara Catholic will not only thrive but it
will serve as a beacon of a quality education that focuses on
building a strong and healthy mind, body, and soul for every
student fortunate enough to be enrolled here.
I want to personally thank you for your past support and I
ask that you continue to help us keep the spirit, traditions, and
reputation for a high quality Niagara Catholic education alive
and thriving for many, many years to come.
With gratitude,
Robert M. Cluckey, Ed.D.

Ralph Aversa, Jr. Niagara Catholic ‘01
Ralphie currently hosts a weeknight radio show on 95.5 PLJ in New
York City. He interviews celebrities, covers red carpet events and
attends award shows across the country. There is a lot of behind-thescenes work that people don't see, but for the most part his job consists
of many "once-in-a-lifetime" moments that he is very grateful for.
Dianna Derigo, Niagara Catholic ’10
Dianna is a recent graduate of Niagara University. She has a B.A.
majoring in psychology and a minor in biology and justice & peace
studies. She also graduated Summa Cum Laude and was awarded
highest honors for having the highest GPA in my graduating psychology
class. Dianna was inducted into several honor societies including Delta
Epsilon Sigma, Sigma Alpha Sigma, and PSI CHI. One of her proudest
accomplishments at NU was her presidency of a community service
organization called Circle K International. She dedicated herself to
attempting to grow the amount of kindness and service on campus
and in turn the club grew almost 150% and we were awarded for the
highest amount of growth in our district by Circle K International. She
was also awarded the distinguished president's award for her service.
Outside of school she has been involved in the Big Brother Big Sister
program for two years. She was chosen by a local radio station as
"mentor of the month" after being nominated. She plans to attend
Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis this fall to obtain
her master's in occupational therapy. It is currently ranked #1 by U.S
News and Reports for their occupational therapy program.
My goal is to work with children who have been exposed to early life
adversity and to grow the scope of trauma informed care in hopes to
help children live better lives who have experienced trauma.
Molly Bradshaw, Niagara Catholic ‘02
Molly has been accepted into the Doctoral program at North Carolina
State University where she will pursue her degree in Extension
Education with a concentration in Leadership and Development. Molly,
who lives in Raleigh North Carolina, serves as the University’s Business
Operations Liaison Manager and is the daughter of proud parents Jim
Bradshaw, Bishop Duffy 1967, and Maureen Kellick, Madonna 1969.

Allyssa is currently attending Niagara University while majoring in
Economics and Math. She has an academic paper under review at the
Economic Journal called “Religiosity and the Impact of Religious
Secondary Schooling”. It is co-authored by Dr. Jay K. Walker. This
paper was presented at the Southern Economic Conference in the Fall
of 2015, and The Business Research Consortium of western NY in the
Spring of 2015 and 2016. Allyssa is aspiring to finish both of her
degrees by 2017 at Niagara University, and move on to get her masters
and her Ph.D. in Economics.
Gerald Bartko, Bishop Duffy ‘56
After graduation he entered the Oblates of St. Francis DeSales and was
ordained in Annecy, France on October 15, 1966. He was the first

ordained to the priesthood. Fr. Bartko taught at DeSales high school
and Niagara Catholic for a total of 44 years. Presently he resides at All
Saints and serves masses there and at nearby parishes. He continues
his ministry as chaplain at the Niagara County jail and local nursing

Welcome New Faculty & Administration
We are pleased to welcome the new faculty & staff members to the Niagara Catholic family.
Lisa Frandina Guidance Counselor
Shawn Haseley Social Studies/Religion
Ms. Frandina joined the Niagara Catholic family in December of 2015 and
has felt right at home. She is very thankful to be welcomed into this family
with such open arms and kind hearts. Ms. Frandina has her Master’s degree
from Canisius College in School Counseling and is a Provisionally Certified
NYS School Counselor. Previous to joining Niagara Catholic, Ms. Frandina
worked within the Admissions department at Canisius College, and interned
within the Charter School for Applied Technologies district. When Ms.
Frandina is not at NC, she is spending her time with family, friends, and her
French Bulldog; Hunny.
Mr. Haseley joined the Niagara Catholic family in August and is excited to
be part of such a great school. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Social
Studies Education grades 7-12 and is finishing his Master’s Degree at UB in
Literacy Education grades K-12. Previous to joining Niagara Catholic, Mr.
Haseley was a substitute teacher within the North Tonawanda City School
District and eventually the building-based sub at North Tonawanda Middle

Tanya Okoniewski English
Mrs. Okoniewski (Mrs. Okie), is looking forward to her first year with the

bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education Birth-6 at Buffalo State College,
and is also certified in Early Childhood Education and ELA 7-12. Recent
completion of graduate studies at The University at Buffalo have included a
master’s degree as a Literacy Specialist Birth-12th grade. Bringing with her
the perspective of a former Catholic school parent and six years teaching
Catholic education, she is thrilled to be part of such an exceptional faith
community and school. She is known for her creativity that she integrates
into every aspect of student learning. Mrs. Okie holds the belief that every
student should be valued and treated with respect and an education should
empower students and help him or her make a positive contribution to our
world.
Shannon Graves Earth Science
Shannon Graves graduated in 2015 with a degree in Earth Sciences, with a
minor in Meteorology & Climatology from the Department of Geography

Education in May 2016. When not at school, Shannon can be found in the
dance studio; where she teaches classes and prepares for competitions. She
is excited to start this new chapter in her life as a teacher at Niagara
Catholic, and looks forward to the school year ahead.

Honored at Alumni Awards Dinner
T
he annual Alumni Awards Dinner was held on Saturday, July 16th, 2016,
at The Como Restaurant. We celebrated the accomplishments of our alumni both in their careers and athletics. Over 100 people gathered to support our
Distinguished Alumni, Athletic Hall of Fame Inductee, and Legacy Family.
The evening included cocktail hour before a sit down family style dinner and
ceremony. Each honoree was introduced and their list of accomplishments read
out loud. The awards were presented to the inductees by Michael Volpe
(Director of Advancement & Alumni Relations). Pictured are Don Marinucci,
Niagara Catholic Football Coach, who was inducted into the Athletic Hall of
Fame, Judy Newhouse on behalf of Roger Newhouse, who was honored as a
Distinguished Alumnus. Giulio Colangelo, accepting the Legacy Family
Award on behalf of the Colangelo Family, Judi Nolan Powell, Madonna
1968, honored as a Distinguished Alumna, and Howard Pirong on behalf of
Teresa Coppola, who was also honored as a Distinguished Alumna.
