The Real Climax of the Story - Re-Creation What comes after Jesus? Why isn’t Christ on the Cross and the resurrection of Christ the end of the Story of Scripture? What still needs to be done? The Three things that sin destroyed was Paradise, Our Ability to fulfill our Purpose (Worship, Obey, and Enjoy God) and our identity (made in the image of God). Today we’re going to walk through each of these things and look at how God’s ultimate mission was to restore all of these things, but not only restore, re-create. Let’s look at some passages. 1 Corinthians 15:35-58 What is this passage talking about? Resurrection. What part of the pre-fall humanity is God restoring through Resurrection? Our ability to image God. We are all going to be resurrected into bodies that are like Christ’s resurrected body. These bodies, unlike our earthly bodies, will not be subject to death or decay but will be our eternal physical bodies. We will walk and run and sing and experience life without the fear of death or decay. How cool is that. Revelation 20:10-15 This passage I believe speaks directly to, this idea of freedom. In this passage we see the Devil, the Beast, and the False Prophet, along with Death and Hades and everybody whose name was not written in the book of life thrown into the lake of fire. East of Eden Sin has reigned over every person and every generation. Even Christians who have been forgiven of their sins and are no longer enslaved to it still have to daily wage war and a lot of times we succumb to its power. Part of the Re-Creation is starting completely over. Every enemy of God was destroyed. Death and Hades itself was thrown into the lake of fire, there is no longer a battle you guys. Christ has won and sin and death has lost. We do not have to fight anymore, we are finally free to fulfill the purpose that God has created for and nothing from the outside with be able to hinder us. Revelation 21:1-8, 22-27 The Real Climax of the Story - Re-Creation In this passage we have God establishing his kingdom except this time its not a Garden, but a City! And in this passage we also get a glimpse of what life in that city is going to be like. It was Beautiful. v 2 God will be their with his people living side by side with them. v. 3 God will personally wipe every tear from our eyes. v 4 Death will be over. v 4 There will be no more mourning, crying, or pain. v 4 It will all be new (never seen before) v 5 We will drink from the spring of life. v 6 We will be seen by God as his sons and daughters. v 7 There will be justice. v 8 The glory of God is its light. v 23 There will be nations. v 24 There will be no night. v 25 There will be nothing unclean or detestable. v 27 What a City, what a Kingdom! Revelation 22:1-5 We see again the Tree of Life, and its leaves are for the healing of the nations. We will see the face of God again, not with veiled faces like Moses, not with our Spiritual eyes, but with our actual eyes and with unveiled faces we will behold God’s face again. To conclude the class I would like to read the last words of Scripture and allow these words to fill you with contentment, joy, and hope as we look forward to a better Eden a heavenly city. We will reign in this city for ever and ever! Revelation 22:6-21 6 And he said to me, “These words are trustworthy and true. And the Lord, the God of the spirits of the prophets, has sent his angel to show his servants what must soon take place.” The Real Climax of the Story - Re-Creation 7 “And behold, I am coming soon. Blessed is the one who keeps the words of the prophecy of this book.” 8 I, John, am the one who heard and saw these things. And when I heard and saw them, I fell down to worship at the feet of the angel who showed them to me, 9 but he said to me, “You must not do that! I am a fellow servant with you and your brothers the prophets, and with those who keep the words of this book. Worship God.” 10 And he said to me, “Do not seal up the words of the prophecy of this book, for the time is near. 11 Let the evildoer still do evil, and the filthy still be filthy, and the righteous still do right, and the holy still be holy.” 12 “Behold, I am coming soon, bringing my recompense with me, to repay each one for what he has done. 13 I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.” 14 Blessed are those who wash their robes,[c] so that they may have the right to the tree of life and that they may enter the city by the gates. 15 Outside are the dogs and sorcerers and the sexually immoral and murderers and idolaters, and everyone who loves and practices falsehood. 16 “I, Jesus, have sent my angel to testify to you about these things for the churches. I am the root and the descendant of David, the bright morning star.” 17 The Spirit and the Bride say, “Come.” And let the one who hears say, “Come.” And let the one who is thirsty come; let the one who desires take the water of life without price. 18 I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: if anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book, 19 and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away his share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book. 20 He who testifies to these things says, “Surely I am coming soon.” Amen. Come, Lord Jesus! The Real Climax of the Story - Re-Creation 21 The grace of the Lord Jesus be with all.[d] Amen. Eden was perfect but our Eternal dwelling is even better. Just like the very first miracle of Jesus during the wedding at Cana, God always saves the best for last. This is our Hope. This is SALVATION! Come Lord Jesus, Come. Amen.
