Among all elusive cats, Pantanal Jaguars has been identified as the largest subspecies of jaguar. The Pantanal has
emerged as the best place in the world to watch and photograph these amazing cats. In this vast land, two major rivers
cross a mosaic of wetlands, savannas and tropical forests: the Cuiabá and Paraguay rivers lies the renowned Meeting of
the Waters State Park, in Porto Jofre, where nature lovers from around world come to witness this magnificent creature.
We at Cinnamon Nature Trails with our extensive experience in conducting professional photographic safaris now offers
you an exotic tour in search of this elusive cat along the river. The safari is primarily by motor boat which maximizes the
chances of coming across a jaguar patrolling the river banks in search of food or lazing in the hazy sunshine on the forest
fringes.
Generally speaking, the best time to visit is between June and December. The Giant Otters tend to be visible daily at
close range from early June through Dec. So far, research has shown that July through November are the best months to
see Jaguars on the rivers.
Chitral Jayatilake, Head of Eco Tourism at Cinnamon Hotels & Resorts will personally lead
these limited expeditions. With over thirty years of experience in tracking and photographing
Big Cats, Chitral will personally assist all participants capture the best possible imagery during
this very exclusive safari conducted in the home of the Jaguar.
TOUR ITINERARY
Pre-trip meeting at Cinnamon Hotels head office at 117, Sir Chithampalam A. Gardinar Mawatha Colombo 01.
45 minutes’ discussion on the preparation.

Departure date: 02nd October 2017
o
On the departure date, we assemble at Cinnamon Lakeside Hotel at 2300 Hrs.
o
We get onboard a company coach to travel to Bandaranaike International Airport.
o
We fly on Qatar Airways to Sao Paulo. (Departure time 03:25 a.m.)
Day 01 (2nd October)
o
Arrive at Sao Paulo airport on 2nd October at 04:45 (p.m.) in the evening and met by our representatives in Brazil
and drive to the hotel in Sao Paulo
o
We check in to Panamby Guarulhos Hotel, located just 15 minutes away from the Guarulhos Airport (Sao Paulo).
This will be our home for the night after a long day of flying.
Day 02 & 03 (3rd and 4th October)
o
After a light breakfast in the morning, we depart to the airport to catch our domestic flight to Cuiaba airport.
o
Upon arrival, immediate departure to Pantanal lowlands, where would stay in an exclusive farm ranch
Passo da Ema for the next two days.
o
During the next two days - you will be touring around spotting a wide range of birds, searching for the exotic Giant
anteater, Tapir, Ocelot, Brown cappucin monkey, Crab eating raccoon and Foxes among other mammals.
Day 04 (05th October)
o
After lunch we depart to Porto Jofre region and our accommodation will be at Panthera lodge for 04 nights.
o
Rest of the day will be free on leisure, and in the evening the group will sit together over a cup of tea and discuss
on plans to see the Jaguars. Chitral will also provide few photography tips, so that you capture perfect photo.
Day 05 – 08 (06th, 07th and 08th October)
o
The next three days of the tour will be dedicated in searching the amazing Jaguars in its natural habitat and giant
otters besides river bank birds from a boat powered by a 115 HP outboard engine.
The Boat is a 12 seater with ample space for 8 guests and equipment - Each day will consist two safaris.
Day 08 (9th October)
o
After three exciting days, we depart towards Pouso Alegre lodge after breakfast. Today we go look for spot
anteaters, deer, armadillos among the amazing Hyincinth Macaws. This will be a treat for Bird Lovers.
o
Overnight stay at the hotel.
Day 09 (10th October)
o
After lunch departure to Cuiaba airport for the flight at 18:40 to Sao Paulo
and catch the onward international flight to Colombo on Qatar Airways (11th Oct – ETD 0315 Hrs)

Packing Tips:
Travelers may have their own preferences but please bear in mind our suggestions:
- Earthly colored clothing for safaris
- 1-2 pairs of light weight trousers - that can dry quickly (if wearing on treks)
- 2 pairs of shorts
- 2 long sleeved shirts - quick drying preferably
- 2-3 short sleeved t-shirts - moisture-wicking preferably
- Cotton and Linen clothes for evenings
- 1-2 pairs trousers
- 1 Lightweight waterproof/ windproof/breathable jacket e.g. Gortex/ Event / Paramo type fabrics
- 1 fleece, sweater or sweatshirt
- running shoes and trainers
- 1 pair sports sandals can be useful
- Swimsuit (and a plastic bag for packing in)
- Towel - Lodges provided these but if needed we suggest taking trek towels.
- Bush hat with a brim for sun protection
- Sunscreen and moisturizing cream
- Sunglasses with neck strap
- Insect repellent with DEET
- Daypack/ small rucksack
- Torch/ flashlight - LED models are light weight and have a good battery life
- Light Binoculars
- Alarm clock- though your guide will wake you!

- Spare/ extra batteries
- Camera Gear
- Camera charger/converter/adapter for 220/240AC voltage, plus cigarette lighter adapter is useful
- Plenty of spare memory cards or film; particularly fast film for low light conditions (400-1600ASA)!
- Prescription medicines and possibly prescription itself
- Wet-wipes/ tissues
- Back-up glasses especially if you wear contact lenses
- First Aid Kit including anti-diarrhea medicine, aspirin, cold medication, Band-Aids, motion sickness pills, lip balm, eye
drops and personal medication.
- Photocopies of your passport, visas, credit cards and airline tickets (it is advisable to have 2 sets to keep in separate
places)
For the Keen Photographers, Chitral recommends to bring along the following gear.
1. One or two Camera Bodies
2. 500mm or a 600mm Telephoto lens as your main optical gear for snapping jaguars
3. 300mm Short lens or 80 – 200mm f 2.8 lens
4. Mono-Pod with a quick release Head – Extremely important for use on the boat or Light Tripod
5. Empty Bean bag – which can be filled up on arrival
6. Adequate memory cards – 01 Hard Drive and battery charges and lens cleaning tissues
7. Carrying 01 Lap top will suffice which can be shared to down load images
8. Pack in your spirit for adventure – This is going to be a high adrenaline safari in the Pantanal’s.
