2nd
Activity
Adventure Poster Group Project - Set-Up
Phase
15 min
The students will clear their desks of their notetaking utencils, and the teacher will draw their
attention to the front of class. The teacher will
explain that the students are now going to take
part in writing an article that will convince 1800’s
Europeans to travel to far away lands.
The teacher will start by projecting a world map
on the board. Then, the teacher will guide the
students through locating the geographical areas
listed below. This will serve the purpose of
speeding along the following activities, as well as
giving the students a refresher on geography, so
that they can make an informed decision on
which territory they would like to research.
The Teacher will break the students up into
groups of 3-4 depending on class size. The
Groups will then take turns choosing an area of
the world to research. The Countries represented
should be as follows. (It is perfectly fine if not all
countries/ territories are used.)
Algeria
Egypt
South Africa
Sudan
The Congo
India
-Map of the World
-Projector
-The Complete
School Atlas by
Holt, Rinehart, and
Winston
Subject: World History
Date:
Grade level: 10
The Philippines
China
Thailand
Saudi Arabia
Each group will then be given a copy of The
Complete School Atlas by Holt, Rinehart, and
Winston, and will be told that they are to research
the territory they chose, and create a
presentation based on the information they find.
The groups will be given 10 minutes to find which
pages their specific area is represented in (they
are spread throughout the book, but it is a small,
easily navigable book). Within these 10 minutes,
the group should find the following information on
their territory.
Geographical Location
Climate
Major Exports
Population Density
Main Occupation (nomadic, farmers, etc)
Major Cities
Natural Wonders located within the country or it’s
surrounding area.
The students do not need to document this
information within these 10 minutes, but simply
locate where in the book the information is held
so that the next part of the activity can go more
smoothly. Once the 10 minute period is up, or
when all groups have found the necessary
information, the teacher should move on to the
next phase of the activity.
Objective:
The Students will locate significant areas of
Asia and Africa on a World Map. The Students
will review The Complete School Atlas in
order to find important facts about imperial
regions of Asia and Africa.

of why this area is perfect for the adventuring
European. This should include at least 3
reasons why someone would want to
adventure there.
The Poster should also include AT LEAST
ONE drawing of possible adventure in the
groups given region.
After the rules have been explained to the
students, the teach should give them each a
