Main Idea: Determine a reasonable answer.
Examples:
1. Suki wants to buy an MP3 player that costs $129. She found it on sale for 75% of the original price. Would the sale price be about $30, $60, or $90? Explain.
2. Cara sees an advertisement for a pair of shoes. One pair costs $34.99 plus 5 percent tax. She wants to buy a black pair and a brown pair. Cara has $75 in her clothing budget. Can she afford both pairs of shoes?

3. Jason received a $100 gift card from a local store. He found a shirt for $24 and a pair of pants for $43.99. Does he have enough money to buy a pair of shoes for $35.99? Explain.
4. Cameron is paid $8.50 an hour to watch his nephew. If he is saving to buy a new skateboard that costs $325, should he babysit for about 20, 30, or 40 hours? Explain.
5. Alex is saving money for a camping trip. He needs $54 for food and $320 for equipment. He has saved $150. If he can save $40 each week, in how many weeks will he have enough money?
6. In a recent survey, 44% of students at Davison High School own a cat. If there are 1,532 students in the school, is 600, 675, or 715 a reasonable estimate for the number of students who own a cat?
