Integer Rules with examples

Adding integers
Subtracting Integers
Same Sign= add and keep the sign
-6 + (-7) = (-13)
6 + 7 = 13
Change subtraction to addition and
rewrite the problem.
Then follow the rules for addition.
Different Signs= subtract the absolute
values then take the sign of the greater
absolute value
- + becomes + 4 – 6 = 4 + (-6) = -2
-6 + 7 = 1
- - becomes + +
6 + (-7) = (-1)
(-9) – (-10) = -9 + (+10) = 1
Multiplying and Dividing Integers
Same signs = answer is Positive
(-6) ∙ (-7) = 42
18 ÷ 9 = 2
Different signs = answer is Negative
(-6) ∙ (7) = -42
18 ÷ (-9) = -2
