Interdependence is
when you rely on other
people places or
things or they rely on
you. Some of the
clothing that you have
you might think all
came from the USA ,
but in reality most of
the clothing is made in
China.
We are all connected!

How does our clothing illustrate
global interdependence?
How does what I’m wearing
connect me to the rest of the
world?
Clothing labels only have
one country on the label,
but what they don’t tell
you is all the other people
and places that helped
make them. Whether it’s
raw materials,
manufacturing or just
being part of trade route,
lots of places and people
have a role to play in the
stories of our objects.

Where would you get your
cotton from and why?
Where would you sell your
jeans?
I would join a group to
improve cotton farming.
I would sell mine in a local
fair trade store so it is fair for
the people.
I would do that because it
would be a fair trade and
more money because it is in
high demand.
How would you use dye and
water to make jeans?
I would use less water so
people can have more water
to drink and stay alive.
Where are parts of jeans made and
what decisions would you make if you
had to make and sell jeans?
Jeans are made of cotton ,
dye and water. Cotton is an
important crop and some
farmers make a living
growing cotton. Some
farmers use chemicals when
growing cotton. Other don’t
use chemicals
Jeans are dyed and washed
many times to give them the
desired color it takes 2,500
gallons of water to make one
pair of jeans you need to
chose a safe dye.
You may want to sell your
jeans online so that you can
you sell your jeans all over
the world. It may also make it
easier to find new places to
get raw materials.

At Macy’s I bought the
jacket made in China. The
other pair of shoes were
purchased in a shoe
warehouse.
Every one of the articles
of clothing was made in
China. We rely on them
for most of our clothing
and toys.
I wear the clothing if I go
out somewhere.
