March 2017 - Ocean Club Resort Residents Guide

OCR RESIDENT’S NEWSLETTER
March 2017
Issue 1
Editorial Introduction
T
his is the first issue of Grapevine, a monthly
newsletter for residents, informing you of
what’s happening at the Resort. We also need
you to let us know what’s happening at your place
that may be of interest to your neighbours. For
example, recently a “lost” kangaroo looked into
someone’s kitchen window while a snake was
spotted hanging about in a couple of our homes and,
how did that frog get into our wardrobe?
Jennifer Law
On behalf of the residents of OCR we offer our sincere
condolences with the passing of Jennifer.
May she Rest in Peace.
There is a home that lies beyond, and past its golden
door, awaits the one who's now away, not lost, just gone
before. And in the home that lies beyond, the Master will
prepare, a place for you, and when he calls, you'll meet
your loved ones there.

This is your Newsletter – your Comments, Letters

What’s odd
Penguins mate for life. The male proposes
by giving his mate a pebble.
A duck’s quack doesn't echo and no one
knows why. – for more read Dr Karl’s

Trevor the travelling trivia trophy
This strange Queensland groper was caught in Lake
Cathie
Fishing in the Lake recently a Melbourne visitor, Nick
McDonald, caught this unusual fish around 15 cm
along the south rock wall between the bridge and
river mouth. It's a juvenile Queensland Grouper and
a protected species. They grow to 1.5m. This one
was caught on a Squidgy soft plastic. It went back in
so all you fishing experts; it’s still there just waiting
for you.
Trevor has travelled around the country with quite a
few of our residents. He is part of the main prize at
our trivia events and the winning table will share
him until the next event. With this in mind, we
thought it might be a bit of fun for Trevor to ask a
question in the Grapevine specifically about places
in our wonderful country, so for the first one. .....

Community live? See Answer page 4.

Join us for dancing and Rock n’ Roll
For friendship, fun and fitness. Two left feet? Most
of us have sore feet, knees or back niggles, but no
problem! The exercise is great and gentle enough to
not affect you. Dancing uses many parts of our brain
too, not just our feet.

We need coordination, planning and judgement to
synchronise our body movements to the beat and
sound of the fabulous 50s and 60s. Our classes
include rock ‘n’ roll, line dancing, partner dancing,
waltzing and cha-cha. Something for everyone. The
group is expanding and all are having fun. So, bring a
partner and join in the fun at the air-conditioned

OCR sales With the increased advertising through
television, radio and media already planned, we are

OCR Motor Bike Riders visit Ken Barsby
OCR Thursday Walking Group
Ken Barsby is well known in and around Kempsey
and was a resident of OCR till his health dictated he
needed to be in an Aged Care facility, where he
could be cared for.
We are a dedicated group who enjoy a social
morning coffee after a walk (or a walk, then coffee)
to one of the many beautiful locations around Port
followed by coffee. Watch out for the Schedule of
Walks emailed at the start of each month. For
further information, contact Ray #133.
Eight riders went to see Ken and it was a pleasure to
see the smile on his face when he viewed the bikes.
Ken was excited to show us his room which is in a
first class facility. I am sure there will be other visits
to see him. Gary #20.
Annual General Meeting (AGM)
The Residents AGM was held on Friday 24th February
with 109 residents attending. A number of motions
concerning amendments to the Constitution were
discussed and adopted.
The election of the Residents Committee and the
Social Club saw the following people elected.
The OCR Singers
Residents of OCR have formed a singing group, just
for the pleasure of singing. If you would like to join
you don’t have to have a great voice, just enjoy
singing. The Group is very appreciative of the
donation from the Residents Committee which
enabled the purchase of a new keyboard. Come
along to the Activities Centre on Thursday evenings
at 7.00pm. For further information, contact Gary
#20.
