What were the 3D shapes you saw in the video?
52
Cube
A cube is a solid shape. It has 6 flat sides that are all equal in size. A flat side on a shape is called a face.
A cube has 8 corners.
What are some objects you can think of that are in the shape of a cube?
53

54
Sphere
A sphere is a perfectly round solid shape.
Think of a sphere as a ball, not a circle.
A sphere has zero faces.

Lab: 3D Shapes Lab
Students will build a three dimensional cube out of straws and pipe cleaners. They will then dip them in a soap solution to notice the films that are created in the cube frames. Building the cubes will reinforce their understanding of faces and vertices. They will also make a cone and make bubbles from this, reinforcing their understanding of the properties of cones and spheres. Click here for complete directions
