During your trip, you will do more than help build homes – you will become part of the local community and participate in cultural activities. Hopefully this journey will ignite your passion for making this world a better place! Gage Yager, the Trinity Habitat Executive Director, will lead this trip. He went to “The DR” in January of 2014 to get to know the local Habitat affiliate. See a beautiful country and work up close with those living in dirt-floor-shack-third-world poverty. Be amazed at how gracious and wonderful these beautiful people are! Gage took the pictures below. Incredible History – Santo Domingo was established in 1498 by Bartholomew Columbus, Christopher’s brother. The first Franciscan convent and church in the Americas (called San Francisco) was built here in the early 1500s. In 1586 Santo Domingo was taken by the infamous pirate Sir Frances Drake (you can see a cannon ball he shot from his ship!). See this great history on the walking tour!
